I'm trying to build a Sekiro-esque (Isshin, Genichiro, Owl, Sekiro) character in 5E, I've seen arguments for Kensei, Samurai, a few Rangers, Warlocks, BM, and several rogues. These characters are notable for their skill with weapons, high mobility and evasion, and supernatural or magical abilities such as teleportation, elemental control, supernatural acrobatics. So, those of you familiar with both Sekiro and DND, how would you build him?
I would start off with the class, which i would multi class fighter and rogue.
lets start off with the fighter, they get acrobatics, athletics, perception, and survival. pretty good for what were're goin' for. and the equipment: (a) chain mail, or (b) leather armor and a long bow. now I would choose b, as many samurai were trained with bows, and it gives you quite an advantage with the range. plus with great weapon fighting you get to re-roll your first die if it hits a 1 or 2, since we wield a katana with two hands, this is perfect. and with "champion" (since not everyone has other content) they have the improved/superior critical, which is insanely useful for being a powerful samurai.
Now let's go to the rogue, they get athletics, acrobatics, deception, insight, investigation, perception, and stealth. also useful. now here we don't really care as much about equipment, but the short sword would work as a mock-katana. now for the more useful stuff, they get expertise, sneak attack, cunning action, and uncanny dodge.
(recap) 15 levels in fighter, 5 in rogue. also, for the sekiro aesthetic, there is a shinobi prosthetic
the rest is up to you
