I mean... revivify, the 3th level spell, takes 1 action to cast as well and also returns you to life with 1 hp, meaning you can join combat right away.
This capstone ability is still better mid combat; however, because it restores more than 4d10 hitpoints to the target as well, meaning they wont immediatley go down in one hit. So its effectively a revivify + a decent healing spell for the cost of 5 ki points all as a single action. 4d10 hitpoints definitely wont go incredibly far in 17th level encounters, but may keep the character alive long enough to run away or try to get more dedicated healing. Plus, even if they go down again, their death saving throws have reset so they get another chance at living through dropping to 0.

Oh, i wasn't necessarily critisising the ability, i was correcting the person above me who stated this ability was the only way to bring someone back mid combat. Should have quoted, sorry for the misunderstanding.
Cicle of dreams druid and celestial warlock also looks awesome for revivifying in the middle of combat, as they can use their level 3 feature to heal their ally as a bonus action (Cha*d6 for warlock, (level/2)*d6 for druid)
Has everyone missed that the level 17 ability is an action that also heals, i.e. something you can use mid-combat?
You can, but only on someone that's dead and you can only use it once a day, so you're risking not being able to get them back up after the fight if they take another hit or two.
Ok, you seem to have missed the point. Short of a wish spell, I'm pretty sure this is the only character that can bring someone back from the dead in the middle of a combat situation. At this level there's presumably a Cleric or other spell caster that can spend the next hour resurrecting/revivifying if someone else truly dies, but the monk is the only one who can make someone that has been outright killed re-join the battle. It's not an amazing, must have ability, but it's far from the useless ribbon ability your'e making it out to be. A better question is why does my monk have this incredible instant resurrection ability that no cleric in the world has, it feels really jarring and flavour wise I agree they should have something different.
I really like Mercy monk, mostly because of the great utility and the prospect of with one ki point attack 2 times with a katana, then make another unarmed strike, add poisoned to someone and heal a comrade up from unconcious in one massive do-all move. And thats without two potential stunning attacks with the katana.
With Mobility and high speed its not even unlikely to happen on a regular basis.
Yeah, one other potential use for the Way of Mercy Monk is as an interrogator. Once you get to level 11, you become the party’s heavy to extract information. Hands of Healing can bring an unconscious enemy up, and Hands of Harm can induce disadvantage. You can easily engineer a situation where the Monk brings the intimidation to the room, just through the application of technique and a mask.
This approach is admittedly a bit dark, but it might be needed if there isn’t any other available option. Perhaps the party doesn’t have a proper intimidator or access to Zone of Truth for some reason, and they need to find out who hired an assassin.

Dark? Probably. Fun? Absolutely. Love this idea.
Before the changes I would have said Poisoner feat was a must, now I don’t think it brings much to the table (pun intended).
