Hi I am new to DND ... and in the middle of theory crafting a few rogue multi class options since rogues do not have multi attacks and all, and the chance of landing the sneak attacking is rather limited.
Simply asking if I am to build a LV 3 rogue LV 3 ranger (total character lv 6), do I calculate the sneak attack die from 2d6 or 3d6?
and ... proficiency bonus would be +3 and not +2 from rogue and +2 from ranger for a total of +4 ... right?
For your character the sneak attack will be 2d6 (3 levels Rogue) and proficiency will be +3. Proficiency takes into account your total character level, not from each class combined.
Certain Things scale based on total character level and others scale based on class level. Proficiency bonus scales on character level, so it would be +3 not +4. Cantrips are another example of this, so if you take a dip in a catser, the cantrips will still be at full damage at level 17, regardless if you only took a level 1 dip. Sneak attack scales with youre rogue class level, so it would only be 2d6.

Thank you everyone!
recap ...
Proficiency bonus = total character level
cantrips = total character level
Class features = class level
Yes, that is accurate
