Brief "about me" Played back in 87-89 while deployed in the service. JUST picked it back up last year (father daughter activity) & understanding the basics again. (took a while to get the different mind set of ThAC0 to the now AC LOL)
* level 3 Trickster gets the 3 cantrip 3 spells. SO my question, the spells of the Mark, in ADDITION to or instead of? (So the list of spells & level on the class goes to lvl 5 spell...but as an arcane trickster at level 20 the MAX spell lvl available is 4th. hopefully that makes sense...cause I AM confused.)
You know the minor illusion cantrip. Starting at 3rd level, you can cast the invisibility spell once with this trait, and you regain the ability to cast it when you finish a long rest. Charisma is your spellcasting ability for these spells.
--> These are additional bonus spells you get at the appropriate character level 1 and 3.
Spells of the Mark
If you have the Spellcasting or the Pact Magic class feature, the spells on the Mark of Shadow Spells table are added to the spell list of your spellcasting class.
--> These are added to the list of spells that you can chose from, you get the option of picking them in addition to your regular spell list but they follow the same rules as normal so you can only chose the level 2 spells if you have level 2 slots etc. They are not bonus spells.
So to get any level 2 spells,, my character needs to get level 7. At 7th level I can get Pass without a trace (per mark spell list) and at 8th level I can get 1 level 2 spell of ANY school of magic...right? And thanks for the reply. Helps a TON!
Correct, you will be able to chose a second level spell once you reach level 7 as an arcane trickster. Remember though that you can only take spells from the illusion and enchantment college and Pass without trace is an abjuration college spell, so in order to take it you would either have to wait until level 8 or swap it for the only non illusion and enchantment college spell you took when you got your 3 spells at level 3. The Mark of Shadow only adds the spells to the list, you still have to follow the class rules as to what spells from the list you can chose.
now THAT I didnt expect. I thought I would be able to add PWaT at 7th. Guess I will have to wait till 8th. THanks for that...I would have screwed that one up LOL
