So atm I have been looking at stuff for a possible backup character and for this character I have a whole backstory and stuff. I realized a dao genie warlock can pull off some earth bender flavor really easily especially when your spell casting focus is a ring so you can flavor hand motions and add your feet into the flavor.
Anyways mechanically I was looking at the fact that Dao allows you to add bludgeoning damage for one attack per round but doesn't say you have to choose before or after you know you hit or deal damage. So if you do this you can use it for the crit if there is one which with the crusher feat that gives everyone advantage meaning your allies benefit and your future blasts benefit for EB.
Crusher also allows you to move an enemy 5ft but doesn't say which direction so using the two invocations for EB to pull and push you can get really nice control to move enemies around. This becomes even better with spike growth which Dao gives so you can grate an enemy for an extra die with crusher. (I like the flavor of this combo to instead of a lazer to be rocks flying out of the ground bashing the enemy back and forth as they are being slapped across earth spikes and your character does earth bender movements like a dance!)
Then I thought about going half elf for elven accuracy and to get the 2 prof so i can make then more charismatic to fit the rp backstory for them (prince of a destroyed city with the goal to save his people from the 9 hells)
Thinking pact of the chain since my DM is allowing the variant rule of tiny creatures so I am thinking Chwanga (DM wants to use a roll table for the charms for me)
Anyone have any other ideas I can add in that would fit well that could be fun RP in or out of combat?
Genie’s Wrath. Once during each of your turns when you hit with an attack roll, you can deal extra damage to the target equal to your proficiency bonus.
It says "when you hit with an attack roll". That means you have already rolled the attack. You can then decide if you want to add your extra damage to that attack before the damage is rolled, but you cannot decide before you know if you hit or not. A small point, but some DM's find these things important.
I realized that all I did was nitpick. Not very useful, so, a thought; have you looked at a Gensai? Fits the Dao Genie Patron thing well. An Earth Gensai doesn't get much in the way of useful powers, your familiar gives you the Pass Without Trace, but the move over rough terrain thing is nice. and if you're looking for roleplaying oomph, that would fit your concept well. The Chwanga idea is cool. I had to track that down, since it's not an official D&D monster.
If your allowed the options tashas for custom lineage I'd take that, +2 charisma, assuming standard array of point buy 15 in charisma is now 17, starting feat take fey touched, charisma is now 18 and you get 2 free spells per long rest something the lock can really use, skill or darkvision would depend on the party as being the only reason the party needs light sucks, but you are 1 invocation away from darkvision and a couple items grant it as well. 4th level take crusher bump con.
Depending on how much I wanted to lean into a earth bender vibe would effect my pact boon. I am not going to claim they are the best, but talisman representing some sacred earth from your clan, or blade forming weapons of earth to fight with would be pretty fitting. Problem with blade is its pretty rough without being a hexblade, maybe doable if you focus more on dex but there arent many finesse weapons so it may get stale or if you multi class start as a fighter, dump int, dex and wisdom as much as you feel comfortable, have a 15 strength and charisma and wear plate, bump strength with crusher and lay into people with a maul made of "stone" take heavy weapon master at 8. Again not the best option but it could be really fitting.
