My hexlock just hit 5th level, and I'm looking for interesting combinations of spells - and came up with one, but am wondering about concentration.
So on my first turn in combat, I'd cast summon blink as my action, and use hexblade's curse as my bonus action.
On my second turn in combat, I'd cast summon shadowspawn.
Assuming I don't lose concentration, does blinking into the ethereal plane do anything to my concentration, or does it not affect it?
I love the idea of having a shadowspawn ally who keeps the focus of a foe on them while I blink in and out of combat, but am not sure if being transported to a different plane messes with the other spell.
Mechanically speaking nothing keeps you from still concentrating even when you're on a different plane.
So the short answer to your question is: let's do it!
Just as a well-established example of this, banishment. When you banish something you have no option not to be on a different plane than your target and the whole point of the spell is to keep them there by maintaining concentration.
While I'm absolutely saying you can concentrate "beyond planes", I don't think banishment is the right spell to justify that. The Question was the other way round: you leaving the plane and not the target. And with banishment one could argue the spell stays on your plane but the target gets forbidden to do so or something like that. While if you'd get banished you wouldn't be able to concentrate anymore because you're incapacitated.
But still: Yes you can absolutely concentrate from another plane. Just not is something else stops you from doing so (like being incapacitated).
The only thing I could say in regards to this situation is... When you blink into the ethereal plane you can still see into the material plane and while technically being in another plane of existence, spacially you are still within range of your summon, considering the fact that you always come back within 10ft of the spot you last were before blinking, so besides actual range restrictions on the summon spell I don't see a problem with it continuing to function (you can also continue maintaining line of sight on your summon while in the ethereal plane)
