Yeah, but if the DM makes you "waste" a spell slot, he's doing his job right. With a cantrip you don't waste anything.
Maybe on a final boss that you're going to push him off a cliff or something, it's worth the counterspell. And yet, you're making the final boss spend resources, which is always a good thing. You'd obviously prefer not to be counterspelled, but making the bad guy burn resources is a good move. And your cost is just one action.
Understood. One more question: can counterspell affect hurling someone via Hell ad Fiend Warlock? I am just looking thru my campaign logs looking for all casted counterspells, and I found like year ago one DM "countered" my friends Fiend final skill
Counterspell (and dispel magic) only work on spells, so even features described as magical and which have spell-like effects, cannot be affected by them. For that you need something like an antimagic field, which I think would prevent Hurl Through Hell since it's teleportation/planar travel.
Make sence since atimagic is 8th lvl spell and yeah it can work against hurling (just check it in the other game log, and that precisely what happened - field was cast to prevent on the very beggining hurling thru hell)

It's not like you don't waste anything. You don't wate a spell slot that you'd need to recover (which would only be a short rest for a Warlock anyway), but you're wasting a whole turn. This can often be much more impactful unless you're looking at a day full of encounters with barely opportunities to rest. "Just one Action" is putting it extremely lightly. Action economy is super important and not having your Action hurts a lot. Especially when we consider the common "most combats last only about 4 turns" then this "wasted" counterspell just took a quarter of your damage output plus whatever else you tried to achieve by pushing/pulling/slowing the enemy.
Sure, but that's exactly the key. It is not a waste because the other is burning his resources. It's like you're telling me that if someone uses a shield spell against you, you're wasting your turn.
With a level spell, it's something else. So you have indeed lost a resource, and your action (or bonus action or reaction, as the case may be).
w/e its super situational but having mount probably leading to lance (or maybe dual lance xD)
You have disadvantage when you use a lance to attack a target within 5 feet of you. So unless you get close, hit, and get far enough away that he doesn't get within 5 feets of you, it's not a very good weapon. Or that you can retreat without being hit.
I've never really used the mount rules, so I don't know if there's a hit and run combo out there.
I don't think the hexblade is extremely suitable to go with lance, frankly.
Hey, I'm designing a drow elf Hexblade at level 1, and I was wondering, what is the overall best weapon to use as a Hexblade? I know that you can't use any weapons with the two-handed property unless you have Pact of the Blade, so for those responding, you can put both a non-two-handed and two-handed response. Thank you so much for your input!
Mounts can take the Disengage action so you can just move away without triggering opportunity attacks. That being said, the mounted combat rules are a real mess and building a character around it also has the problem of not always being mounted (fighting indoors etc).

Should be made here a ranking / voting system :d
