Currently waiting on my PHB so im just wondering here, but I've played WoW for years and mainly played the warlock as Destruction. Is there a way to build a warlock in 5e just like a Destruction warlock in WoW with spells and background ect?
I’ve never played WoW, but I’m guessing a destruction warlock is a high single-round damage build. In which case be a Hexblade Warlock would be the best option. Since you are new to 5e, I wouldn’t recommend multiclassing, but if you did, take 6 levels in Paladin, and three levels in fighter. Race should be any race that boosts charisma, but preferably the Yuan-Ti pureblood, for immunity to poison and advantage on saves against spells. Prioritise the following eldritch invocations:
Eldritch Smite
Lifedrinker
Relentless Hex
Ghostly Gaze (now you can track enemies through walls’
Choose any Paladin subclass you want, and take champion in fighter. Remember, probably dont multiclass.

So, if I remember WoW correctly, Destruction lock is a lot of fire and boom. Warlock in general in WoW is a pet/spell class, and this one doesn't really have that as much. But given the other aspects a good option is Fiend. Classic straight from the players handbook. Look to use Hex + eldritch blast and take the Agonizing blast invocation. Look to maybe include repelling blast or devil's sight in there as well. Keep your concentration up on hex and focus on non-concentration spells such as the classic fireball that is on the fiend's expanded spell list. I recommend looking at tiefling just for the extra use of Hellish rebuke. Talk to your group about how often short rests are going to be expected so you can get your slots back. But spells like fireball, counter spell, dispel magic, the charm spells, armor of agathys, some of the teleport spells combined with hex and eldritch blast will get you through most things you need.
When looking at what else you want to round your list of spells out with. Look at what you are wanting to do with your character outside of combat when you can get short rests easier and want a good exploration or social spell. Spells like suggestion are great for this.
For your pact there are 2 solid options for this style of play, to more closely resemble your WoW warlock I recommend pact of the chain. this will give you a little Imp familiar that can do all sorts of tasks for you. He can be invisible, shape shift, fly, has decent intelligence and hands to do all kinds of tasks you may need of him. You can have him take the help action and fly away while invisible to give yourself or an ally advantage on an attack roll.
As someone new to 5e in general. The fun in a TTRPG is that you never know how it is going to turn out. No table is the same and no game goes the same way. Even if you are running a module it rarely turns out the exact same. Have fun mate, hope this helps and there are no wrong answers.

D&D warlocks and WoW warlocks are not even remotely the same. A destro lock is a build/spend. You're building up soul shards to throw big chaos bolts. D&D doesn't work on the same principle, there is no build/spend. You mostly spam your eldritch blast, and use your spell slots to fill in here or there, often/usually with a concentration spell.
If you're looking to do some kind of bursty blasting, Wizard or sorcerer is probably a better option.

Any time an unfathomably powerful entity sweeps in and offers godlike rewards in return for just a few teensy favors, it’s a scam. Unless it’s me. I’d never lie to you, reader dearest.
I don't play WoW but I think evocation wizard might be the best fit for you.
Spells in D&D are split into cantrips which you can cast as often as you like and more powerful levelled spells that you can cast a limited number of times by using spell "slots" as you level up you get acess to higher level spells that require higher level spell slots.
Most spell casters keep their low level spell slots as they level up so they can cast these either to save their most powerful spells or for after they have used up their most powerful slots. Warlocks are different, they have much fewer spell slots (called pact slots) but they are all at the higherst possible power for their level. The rest of the time they either make weapon attacks (the hexblade is a gish subclass) or by casting Eldritch blast a cantrip that warlocks have options to enhance to make much more powerful than "nomal" cantrips. Eldritch blast is generally has a single target though once you get to a certain level you can split the damage to 2 and eventually more characters.
If you want to cast lots of AoE damaging spells then wizard and sorcerer are the best options. Evocation wizards specialise in damage dealing spells (as opposed to for example defensive magic or spells that conjure creatures or control the battlefield) and get abilities that can prevent friendly fire and increase the damage of their spells.
Building a high damage Warlock can be difficult, considering they have very few spell slots, but here's the best I can give you. I'd recommend either the Fiend or Hexblade as your subclass, since the Fiend will give you high damage spells, like Fireball and Scorching Ray, and Hexblade's curse can move on to other creatures eventually, and deal more consistent damage. If you get Eldritch Blast, you definitely need to get Agonizing Blast, since that's going to help create high damage cantrip that you can spam as much as you like. For your Pact Boon, you need the Pact of The Blade, because if you get the Invocations like Improved Pact Weapon, Thirsting Blade, and Lifedrinker, you will be dealing consistent damage with your weapon attacks. FOr example, at 12th level, if you have a +4 to Strength, and a +5 to Charisma, and if it was a Longsword, you would be dealing 1d8+5+4+1 per strike, not counting Eldritch Smites, which would count as an extra 6d8 at that level, and you can attack twice with it for the Attack Action, meaning a average of 30 per turn, not counting a smite of any kind, and 56 in one turn with Eldritch Smite. You could also take 2 levels in Fighter, gaining Action Surge, meaning without any Smites, that would be an average of 60 damage per turn, and 86 per turn if you use 1 Eldritch Smite. There are some other combos, but this is what I can think of off the top of my head.
