Eldritch Blast for sure. That will cover your "roll to hit" cantrips; take others that have saves or for utility, depending on the rest of your group and the role you will fill.
Personally, I find Hexblades with Pact of the Tome more versatile and rewarding than with Pact of the Blade, but some folks really enjoy the Blade. Think about what you will enjoy more, not about optimizing.
utility cantrip such as: friends, minor illusion, mage hand, prestidigation
Spells: You generally want spells that level as your limited spell slots are always max level
Armor of Agathys - 5 temporary HP. When attacked, as long as you had that temporary HP remaining before the attack hit, you deal 5 cold damage to the attacker. Scales fantastically with level. Multiply the HP and dmg by the spell level when upcast. That's 15 HP and 15 dmg at level 3. The spell also lasts an hour and doesn't require concentration. Try to cast just before combat starts if possible.
Hex - deal an extra 1d6 damage to the target on a hit. Bonus action to cast. Use Hexblade's Curse first as that doesn't take a spell slot.
Wrathful Smite is ok. It doesn't scale with level and is a save or suck single target fear
Charm Person is ok.
Spells to stay away from:
Shield: I think this spell is terrible for a warlock. You must save a precious spell slot to not get hit one round. Just cast Armor of Agathys.
Witch Bolt: Terrible damage for a spell slot. Just attack with your weapon or Eldritch blast instead.
Persnaly I like takeing Booming blade with them. Green-flame balde is also very nice for them. This way if you do not do get extra attack you have a little extra to hit with. Mind you I normal only take a level or 2 dip into Hex blade with my bard or Soc so you take take 2 attack cantrips from this and still take more from the other class.
I'd say Booming Blade, with the intent of taking War Caster later on. That way you can use this to deal some pretty decent reactionary damage. At level 9 you can get 3d8 thunder damage + normal weapon damage as a reaction if they leave your melee range (you'd need to double check with your DM if the 2d8 thunde damage from moving hapoens immediatly since they moved as part of this attack, or if they continue to move they take the 2d8).
Other Cantrips that can be good and fun are; Prestitigitation which is just a bunch of different spells slapped into one cantrip. Can be useful in RP situations. Another one is Minor illusion, you get to make an illusion as largeas 5 feet. Need cover? Make an illusion of a 5 feet wall and duck behind it. Enemies must use their action to imvestigate the illusion to see through it.
Spells at first level are very basic, Hex does help your damage a bit with an extra d6. Armor of Agathys gives you more survivability with some damage.
I would say for earlier levels stick with Green Flame Blade instead of Booming Blade as it does extra damage to another enemy and doesnt require them to move away from you. At lvl 1 not many enemies will move away from you lol
Your weapon choice is important as well. Are you hand weapon and shield or 2 handed weapon. I am enjoying a hexblade warlock. Pact of blade using a glaive. Eldrich blast Green flame blade a lot of fun. Shield has been very useful.as our party has no fighter. About to level 5 and going to multi class to cavalier for a few levels them possible back to warlock.

Hi,
So making a hexblade, first time getting into warlock so was wondering on some choices for spells/cantrips for level 1.
So far my DM advised me on eldritch blast cantrip.
Eldritch Blast for sure. That will cover your "roll to hit" cantrips; take others that have saves or for utility, depending on the rest of your group and the role you will fill.
