Most spells that deal thunder damage already push and/or knock prone. This is likely why the feature is limited to lightning damage. Adding thunder damage to this feature may present a balance issue as your thunder spells now have a double whammy...
I want to modify it because as a tempest cleric you get an ability that triggers off of ONE spell and your Rebuke. That sucks. By adding Thunder you add three more spells and when you hit 8th level your basic strike. That doesn't seem OP.
Tempest Clerics are already pretty powerful in combat and this is adding more combat power. I would say that it is in fact OP, and definitely unnecessary.
Apparently the fact that Thunderbolt Strike only works with Lightning damage is intentional. See this Sage Advice: https://www.sageadvice.eu/2015/07/01/tempest-cleric/ . I'm guessing that they found it to be OP in playtesting.
I get that it was intentional, and I’ve seen that sage advice, but I am still going to try it with thunder and am curious if anyone had and how it was working.

Totally agree.Tempest clerics are the most popular domain for a reason. If you DM is OK with it then go for it. However, the evidence suggests (Crawford, himself!) this is a clearly balance issue. Likely, most DM's don't allows this, thus the lack of feedback to your post.
As is Thunder Strike is as follows...
At 6th level, when you deal lightning damage to a Large or smaller creature, you can also push it up to 10 feet away from you.
I would modify this to include Thunder damage, has anyone done this and if so how is it working out?
Why do you think Thunderbolt Strike should be modified? Most of the level 6 domain features are defensive in nature without an offensive component.

I always thought this was odd but it's RAW...
A reason to get Shocking Grasp with Magic Initiate feat.
And another reason to not get Witch Bolt.
