Hello, fellow world-builders, storytellers and hopefully developers,
As many of us dive deep into the art of homebrewing, we encounter a familiar challenge—the growing complexity and clutter of our digital toolkits. Imagine transforming that clutter into an organized, publishable collection that mirrors the professional sourcebooks we all admire.
Proposed Feature: Homebrew Adventure Books What if DnDBeyond enabled us to compile our stories, creatures, NPCs, maps, and more into our own comprehensive adventure books or sourcebooks? This would be an evolution beyond the current capabilities, offering a platform where every piece of content—no matter how intricate—can be neatly packaged and integrated. We already love and use D&D Beyond for this very reason but I propose it all be connected together seamlessly on a larger scale.
Nested Organization: A Game Changer To streamline this process, I propose a nesting feature. For instance, if you’ve developed 10 NPCs for your latest campaign, you could group them into a single folder within your character list. When assembling your adventure book (Or campaign for those not interested in making an Adventure Book), you could then incorporate this folder in one fell swoop, eliminating the need to add each element individually. This nesting could apply to all categories, drastically reducing the clutter and enhancing usability. Additionally for those who share their library with their campaign having a folder system that we can choose to share would alleviate unfinished homebrew or items from other campaigns being added into your current campaign.
Creating, Sharing, and Expanding Envision creating your adventure in a dedicated section called 'Create Adventure' under Collections. You’d be able to use all the existing tools on DnDBeyond to add custom content, then organize these into a structured, easy-to-navigate book. Once your adventure book is complete, sharing it would be as simple as sharing any other homebrew content, with options for private use or community sharing.
Optional: Supporting Passionate Creators Many of us dedicated dungeon masters love to share our creations with the world, often through personal websites, Patreon, or even publications. This feature would be a boon for those passionate about sharing their work without the commercial hustle. For those who might appreciate a token of gratitude for their hard work, why not include a discreet, verified donation link to paypal or patreon could be provided, allowing fans to show their appreciation without overwhelming the creative content. This ensures that the primary focus remains on the adventure itself, not on monetary gains.
Why This Enhancement is Crucial This isn't just about making things tidier—it's about respecting and facilitating our creative processes and sharing our passion with the world in the most accessible way possible. It would turn DnDBeyond into not just a tool, but a community hub for thriving, creative sharing. This feature would not only respect our creative processes but also elevate the way we share and manage our creations. It would make DnDBeyond an indispensable hub for both novice and veteran DMs to publish and distribute their unique worlds in a way that’s currently only dreamt about.
Let's make our platform not just a tool, but a living archive of our collective imagination. What are your thoughts on making this dream a reality?
