I am aware that Maps includes an encounter builder, but I play in person and I won't be using Maps. So will I have to build encounters through Maps now? The sidebar in maps isn't as good for simultaneously viewing initiative and monster stat blocks. The encounter builder is much better optimized for in person play. Unless the encounter builder is updated with 2024, it just feels like I'm losing one of the perks of my subscription, or maybe I just won't buy the new monster manual.
I would love to see both modes updated and available after beta, but I don't know if that is realistic. Maybe a feature where I can pop-out the initiative tracker from maps, and add monsters from that pop-out window? If the encounter builder is updated, I would love a feature that allows monsters to switch sides like Maps has. Regardless, developers please don't leave behind irl players that don't use VTTs. I bought all these mini's for a reason, didn't I?
There also needs to be a way to indicate that creatures in the Encounter Builder ARE NOT part of the encounter difficulty. For example, how do you allow NPCs in the encounter tracker?

If they're fighting the party, you're supposed to build them as creatures.
If they're fighting alongside the party, you build them as characters.
Either way, they should affect the encounter difficulty.
Yeah, that doesn't make sense. I have my party encountering a Deva who is served by Dryads who are then attacked by bad guys. The party is trying to save the Deva (for reasons). Dryads are dryads, not PCs. The Deva may be in the combat, or not, but I want them to show up in initiative and so on. I am no programmer, but it should be easy to create a switch (to toggle on/off) for creatures in the encounter (With or Against the party). Or what happens if I build a NPC and include it in the encounter. AFAIK, and maybe I am missing this, to include it in the encounter, I need to include it in the campaign, which my players would see. So, I create a "Parking Lot" campaign and then have to insert a dummy creature in the initiative and go between sheets when it is its turn.
I was very hesitant when 2024 came out, but I really think they have done a great job with things. I love the maps, but I mostly play online. I use the encounter builder whether I am online or offline.

Anyone also feeling this way?
We definitely need an updated Encounter Builder that links with Maps as an option.

Would be fantastic if the encounter builder was able to display the 2024 spells as well - thats a desperately needed update
