A great enhancement would be the ability to annotate Adventure module text. For example, I would like to highlight a section of text and add a note. This text note would record some aspect of the scenario or NPC that I would like to change or emphasize pre-game, or record a key player decision or turn-of-events while running.
The text to which the annotation was added would appear highlighted, and a wand-over or click would pop-up the note for me to reference when running the module with the DDB page up.
This feature could work a bit like various word processing apps where annotations are supported, or even the Genius site for song lyrics.
This would would reduce offline note taking and keep me focused on the DDB page when prepping and running the adventure.
The thought came to me as I was taking offline notes to prep a session based on an Adventure module that I only have through DDB. Offline notes for an online adventure seemed like a real opportunity for improvement.
tbh, I would not try to overthink the functionality in the early stages. If the same text field were used to annotate the same text across campaigns, the user could come up with their own notation to differentiate. I would not hold off the benefits of an annotation feature because of not intelligently handling multiple campaigns based on the same text.
The current notes fields for a campaign are so rudimentary that almost anything would be an improvement.
I originally only thought of annotating an Adventure. If the feature was offered for sourcebooks, that would be cool by me. But it’s an Adventure where I would really like to annotate / “post a sticky note” to remind myself of something when I get to a certain section.
Recently I decided to run Tomb of Annihilation with my family, but some things I want to update to the new 2024 rules (like using Toughs instead of Thugs). It would be so helpful to be able to put a note in there to remind myself “these are Toughs now, MM pg.#”, or even a note with a functional link to the new monster in the 2024 MM or a homebrew version of an NPC or encounter.
Being able to do this in-app would be really valuable to me because space is at a premium in my gaming environment. We don’t have a large table to play on, rather we play in the living room and I have a little TV Tray for my stuff (I put maps on the TV). I don’t have room to scatter notebooks and cards etc., basically I have room for my tablet and phone.

Thanks : )
My problem with annotation in the compendium is how will you differentiate notes for different campaigns or even as a player?
The idea has been suggested before and has merit, but there are a lot of logistics behind it that the requestors sort of leave out.
So what, would there be a sort of new menu in compendiums for changing between notes? What did you imagine?

I love this idea. In fact I found your post and poll looking to possibly suggest it myself if it wasn't already in the forums.
I picture it pretty much the same way you do, just like I can annotate a PDF by highlighting or adding a pop-up note.

Fantastic idea!
This would make it easier to incorporate changes (community content, homebrew) to the module.
Bring it on, please!
