This is the unfortunate reality — the people who would use them properly are the people who already mention which rule set they're referring to in the text of their posts, so a feature like this wouldn't add much in practice.

As a software developer who has seen a lot of UI mockups by "designers", I can say without any doubt, that colour used badly throws your brain off track more easily, than if it were black and white text.

Add a second “Reply” button at the bottom of the comment frame and make each “Reply” button a different color: one for 2014, one for 2024.
And/Or color code the OP based on post date.
It would be easier (and cleaner) to have separate subforums.
