Orcs, goblins and many other monsters which wield weapons have only set weapons listed in their listings (e.g. Orcs are quoted as using Great axes and javelins). Of course, DM's can replace these weapons from others in the PHB but this can slow the game in progress or cause more prep time (something dndbeyond has already greatly reduced, thanks).
How great it would be if the monster listing for monsters which wield weapons showed something like -
Melee Weapon Attack: [select weapon], +X to hit, reach X ft., one target...
..where [select weapon] is a hover-over menu drop-down with a list of the weapons (including +X to hit, reach, and damage) which can be selected to drop into the monster listing for real-time game play. The same could be shown for the Missile Weapon Attack too. Of course, the weapons' +X to hit and damage should incorporate each monster's proficiency and ability score modifications (but you guys and girls are experts at database manipulation so this should be a breeze for you).
The most common weapon could be shown by default instead of [select weapon] but highlighted in the same way that conditions etc. are highlighted to show this is a changeable item.
This idea was highlighted by my 14 year old son who commented how boring humanoid monsters were to loot as they always had the same weapons ;-)
As a paid, professional Dungeon Master (fours years now) your website has been a godsend to help minimize my prep time and manage my campaigns (10 games a week with 60 different players). Dice roller came just in time for the global lock down. Never stop improving your system, it is amazing (everything and more that I dreamed D&D needed back in 1983).
D&D Beyond presents all monsters as described by Wizards of the Coast in their publications and doesn't have the power to change rules. As such, DDB can't add rules that don't exist, such as describing (and allowing changing) of weapons natively within the stat block.
However, there are other solutions to this problem, such as using the homebrew tools or even a monster builder (which is something that has been mentioned in the past)
What a shame that red tape once again limits our possibilities. Never mind, still a great system thanks to both DDB and WoTC. Keep fulfilling dreams both past, present, and future.
