One of my players just pointed out that he wanted to take the feat "Darkest Hour." I have several sourcebooks shared on the campaign and don't know all the feats at this point. When I go to look up the feat in the character builder, it is there. When I go to look up the feat under Game Rules, it is not there. I also can't find it under Homebrew content, so it is not coming from there.
Is there some way to list all the feats associated with a campaign and their corresponding source? Could it be because a player is sharing their own content that I don't have?
That's definitely a homebrew feat. If you look at it on the character sheet, if it's a real feat from a published source, it'd have a dot and then the abbreviation for the book it's from next to it. If there's no book name next to the feat name, it's homebrew. Here's one of my character sheets for reference. There are two legit feats from the PHB, then two homebrew feats that are workaround for other gameplay mechanics.
Homebrew is automatically shared among all people in a campaign, it doesn't have to be published homebrew, it just has to be in a person's collection. So it was probably created by a third person in the campaign.
Okay, cool thank you. I suspected this, but it isn't public homebrew content that I could find. As my campaign is mostly first-timers and it is a really well-developed feat, I was confused, but maybe one of them surprised me.
Also, Krerra looks really cool! An Aarakocra with water mobility sounds unstoppable. Really nice build.
Thank you! She's loads of fun, and I have a DM who's really great about working with favored terrain and favored enemies, so I've been really lucky and able to actually utilize all the elements of the base class.
That sounds amazing. I could learn a thing or two from your DM. I'm still figuring out how to plan without railroading, let alone prepping/improvising to match my character's core features, but getting better every session.
Planning for rangers is actually pretty easy -- what terrain is the area the party might be going through, how long might they be there (a lot of favored terrain bonuses only kick in after an hour of travel, so ambushes can still be possible, or at most you're only losing out on a surprise round). And are any long-term big bads or other enemies that might need to get tracked a favored enemy, or are going to be around long enough that they could become one? Starting out with big picture planning helps with reacting to the smaller stuff that requires improvising.
