I've been trying to create a homebrew player race for the Vegepygmy. Everything was working fine until I tried to give it the vegepygmy language, however it wasn't an option in the drop down list. I then bought the vegepygmy monster from Volo's Guide, to see if it was a problem with not having access to the language because I didn't own the proper content. Problem is that I still can't give the homebrew race the vegepygmy language, but I can give it to homebrew monsters. Does anyone know what the problem is, I don't own all of the Volo's Guide content so if someone does, can they check for me. Otherwise it will need to be fixed.
Some languages in 5e, such as Giant Elf and Vegypygmy, are basically marked as being 'unlearnable' by players. They usually require specific circumstances (being able to produce vegepygmy spores, a particular set of vocal chords, etc) to speak or understand that players cannot access. As such, dndbeyond probably was not built to be able to grant players these languages because there aren't any official races that allow them. Essentially, these languages are restricted by the ruleset due to how minute the possibility of them being used or accessible are.
There's a whole list of languages that players similarly cant learn (such as B;ink Dog, Hook Horror, or Slaad to name a few more examples!)
I don't think this is really something that can be 'fixed' as I doubt its an intended feature for the site, but an admin/moderator would know better.
IIRC, one of the character revamp previews in the dev update, Adam said adding languages (and skills and tools and mundane items) ad-hoc will be possible.
