Surprisingly I didn't see anything come up for this in a search. Now that we can add feats ad hoc in the character sheet revamp I'm wondering if we can add the same feat multiple times?
My use case is that I really just wanted to add a spell ad hoc, but unfortunately this still isn't supported which is a disappointment by itself. So I turn to magic initiate but my character already has that feat. How the heck can I just give my character a bonus cantrip my DM wants to give me?!
So I see the Elemental Adept feat can be taken more than once. Does the character sheet support that?
edit: I went and looked to answer this first question. Yes it does support Elemental Adept by making a different feat for each damage type: Elemental Adept (Acid), Elemental Adept (Fire), etc. So the character sheet still can't let you take a feat multiple times. So I'm guessing homebrew doesn't support it. Which takes me back to my original problem, how the heck can I just please add a cantrip?!
I didn't see an option in the homebrew feats to allow the taking of a feat multiple times. Does it support it?
The builder supports Elemental Adept because the list is finite and short (n = number of damage types). But the feats are broken up into multiple feats. So no the builder does not support taking multiple feats. It makes you break up your feat into multiple feats. But what if breaking up your feat into multiples isn't realistic because the list is not finite or short? Like in my case n = number of cantrips. Or if I make the feat so that you can choose any cantrip, then the n = number of times you might want to add an extra cantrip. See how this implementation of the character sheet is flawed?
Create a feat. In the spell section, add a new entry. In this entry, select "Cantrip" in the spell level box, in the spell class, put the classes from which you want to take this cantrip. This will allow you to select any cantrip you want.
Create the same entry multiple times. This will allow you to select as many cantrips as you want.

So I'm going to name the feats Add Cantrip (1), Add Cantrip (2), ..., Add Cantrip (74) etc. That's ridiculous. That's a flaw. That's bad design. That's bad User Experience. At a minimum it's a "There's room for improvement".
Contrast that against the following stated goal from the Character sheet revamp post.
We plan to introduce even more customization capability in the future, even getting to a point where you do not [leave the Character Sheet] to edit your character since it will all be done in the sheet.
With one entry of the Cantrip spell, you have the entire list of Cantrips to choose from. The entire list of cantrips, with ONLY one entry in the spell section.
If you want to assign 2 cantrips selected from the entire list of existing cantrips, you make two entries.
If you really want to assign 74 cantrips to your character, that is a design that the developers could not have foreseen. Therefore, it is not bad design.
Yeah that's not the way I understood it but my counterargument is the same. Additionally it's as if you're making a feat tailored to a specific character, adding a number of entries to the feat each time that character needs a new spell. Why not just add the ability to add a new spell to your character's spell list on their character sheet similar to how you'd add a modifier to a feat? That's ad hoc spell control without leaving the sheet. It's silly to have to do it through a feat in the first place.
Anyway, thanks for helping know what's the current workaround for getting what I need.
Adding spells outside the official character progression directly on the sheet is far more complicated to code, as the spell progression is hardcoded in each class that has a spellcasting feature. Currently, there are no plans for that.
Yeah for example an ad hoc spell outside of a spellcasting ability would need to be told what its spellcasting ability modifier is and what it consumes if it can be cast such as spell slots or once a day. It really shouldn't have been that hard to implement if it was architected well in the first place, but if it wasn't then yeah getting it to work this way after implementation would be very difficult. Still, from a user perspective this seems like a simple and obvious thing. I hope it is at least an aspiration for DDB.
I did state in my initial post the use case stating why I wanted to add multiple feats which was to do an ad hoc cantrip. Sorry for the possibly confusing dual nature of this post.

By rule from the PHB:
You would need to homebrew feats to achieve what you are trying to do.
So I see the Elemental Adept feat can be taken more than once. Does the character sheet support that?

Elemental Adept can be taken more than once if you choose a different elemental damage type and yes the builder supports that.
You need to call the homebrew feat differently from Magic Initiate in order to take it.

No, I do not see how this is flawed.
What you want to achieve is easy.

Maybe I was not clear enough, I'll try again.

That is not what you asked in the first post.
