I created a race "Returned (Medium)" and I am trying to update it because I messed up where its perks come from and I want it to be more in-line with how the newly released Warforged race works (poison/exhaustion immunity). Unfortunetley I am being presented with the following error which prevents uploads after using "create new version" and correcting the race:
This homebrew Race has been set to have subraces, but no subraces have been created. Is there an easy workaround for this? I've tried creating a new version of a subrace but that was parented to the original version of my race and I couldn't resolve how to change it. Thanks!
The only way I have discovered thus far is to make new subraces on the new version of the race, and copying over all of my work. I had to do this with my Nymph race when the system changed over to the new sheet-- annoying, but worthwhile to get a proper version up.
I belieeeeve it's a flaw in the system, but not technically a bug-- I imagine since I've seen it mentioned a few times that it's on the list, but there are likely higher priorities at the moment.
Hopefully my suggestion, though more work intensive, is helpful!
Idk... That's an unacceptably tedious workflow for me, and exactly what I'm hoping to avoid. I appreciate the info though! I suppose I'll just sit tight and hope it's improved lol.
Alright, so I'll admit I'm a bit lost on this. I've been making some homebrew, and working through the following workflow:
1. Created a race. Fairly simple, I just created a base race. Did not submit. 2. Created a variant. Also fairly simple, but only because when I went to create subraces for my race, it said I couldn't submit the base race. Workaround was to create variants. Published base race and variants successfully. 3. Update base race. Not hard, easily done and saved. 4. Update base race to use subraces. Now I'm back to the issue in 2, where I can't submit my race even though I've made subraces from within the race homebrew creator.
I suppose at the end of this, what I'm looking for is a definitive workflow on how to create a homebrew race with subraces. In none of my Googling has D&D Beyond actually provided such a thing. Why is this so difficult to do?
Agreed. The current workflow doesn't actually function.
I created a parent race and subraces, but the parent race doesn't appear in the list of available parent races on the character creation page; only the subraces do. However, if I disable the "Has Subraces" option in the editor for the parent race, all three appear separately in the character creation options.
I have a similar problem. I created a race, added a variant to it, published both. Then I created a new version of the base race and now the subrace is not listed under the new base, just the old one.
I'm having this problem now as well, I created the parent race first and through it I created a sub-race but I still can't post the parent race because it says there are no sub-races when there clearly are.
Just reiterating this problem. I've created a race with 3 subraces and submitted it. I realized I missed an action type choice on the parent race and went to update it but now the updated version hasn't carried over any of the subrace information from the old. Not motivated enough to re-enter all 3 subraces just to fix a small issue but worth pointing out that this is still happening and really hampers homebrew race/subrace creation.

The trick is to not make them public until after you have done enough playtesting to spot and fix all of that stuff.
Published is permanent. The system is designed so that as soon as you hit “share with comunity” your homebrew is locked just as if it had gone to the printer and thousands of copies had been made.
This is just one of the very many exc lent reasons to not publish homebrews until you are 1,000% sure that they are finished.
In future you can go there and post your questions and then someone helpful (most often me) will explain whatever it is you don’t understand, point you in the direction of helpful resources, or even point blank tell you how to do what you want. Or, at the very least tell you if what you want to do is impossible.
You never ever need to publish your homebrews to use them, or for your friends to use them. In fact, if they aren’t working correctly the worst thing you can do is publish them since “published is permanent.”
So, why not head over into that forum and create a new thread asking how to do what you want, and then folks can help you get your homebrews working. Just be patient at times, it can take time for us helpful folks to see your post, especially since Cuberpunk 2077 came out. 😉

Was really hoping to find a solution hear. Damn.

Hi quick question, but is anyone missing this content from their DnD beyond? I remember purchasing it, however it's no longer included in my account.
What's the worst that could happen?
What do you mean?!? This thread was about homebrew, not missing content. Are you missing some content?

If content is missing then take it to a different thread; this is specifically for the homebrew issue.
Same. Seems this has been an issue for far too long. Why is it so complicated? The entire homebrew creation system is clunky as hell.

But from my end...i can't see whether it is working until it is published....
This thread was started in 2018 and i'm here in Dec 2020 still struggling with this issue...
on top of it i can now not delete any of the not working content i made
Why would you not be able to see if it is working without publishing it?!?
You can thoroughly test everything you create prior to publishing it.

Because I cannot for the life of figure out how the bloody thing works.
I put in all the details but it doesn't clearly explain (at least to me) where info I supposed to go.
It is so frustrating I spend like 30 mins trying and then just give up and go back to paper and pencil.
Okay, that’s what the “Homebrew & House Rules” forum is for:
