I am trying to grant a homebrew subclass access to spells within a divine domain spell list. I'd like to add them such that they are not automatically prepared, but so that they appear on the subclasses known spell list. The class is Cleric.
So far, I have tried adding the spells to the Additional Specific Spells subsection of the Basic Information, followed by adding the spells individually within the Domain Spells class feature, making sure to filter the Edit Spell menu so that they appear as Consumes Spell Slot = Yes, Counts As Known Spell = Yes, Always Prepared = No. The spells appear in the character sheet when they have not been prepared, and do not appear on the Known Spells list within the Edit Character/Character Builder menu. Help!
If you add a spell to the domain, it will always auto-prepare. I think what you need to do is homebrew the spell, and in the basic information, under available for class(es), add the class, in this case cleric. Don't add the subclass, that works the same as adding it to the domain.
Yeah I kept having the same issue, many of my spells show up twice now because of these, very annoying. Like if you add one to the wizard spell list but also the eldritch knight's, it shows up twice! Its hard to get exclusivity when what you want is for a specific subclass to have it, like you said. But, of course, only as an option and not something that it just, always had. I made a bunch of poison and acid damage spells ( since dnd is missing a good number of spells that deal those damage types) and put them on the swamp and underdark druids, and I was like "boy, why do i have like way more spells than everyone else? shouldnt these just be options? i thought thats what I did :/" when I was making a character for a new campaign. I wish there was a simple little toggle on/off for stuff like this. As DxJxC said, the Warlock (and I think the Bard, Paladin, and Sorcerer too) have exactly what we want for this circumstance, but not the clerics or druids. its a shame. this site is so behind in so many ways
Paladins also prepare spells, like clerics and druids. People tend to forget that because a. Paladin spell options tend to be shitty and b. why cast a spell when you can use that spell slot to smite instead?
I don't own it so I don't know how it's put together, but maybe if however the Chronurgy and Graviturgy spells work can be replicated -- if not now, maybe once the homebrew system update is complete (in 2059). Because those are subclass-only spells, and they're not automatically learned or added to the wizards' spellbooks.

That's why you add a homebrew spell to just the Wizard class spell list and not Eldritch Knight & Arcane Trickster also. Those subclasses specifically get access to spells from the Wizard spell list.

Oh yeah for sure. It took me a bit to figure it out but I did a few months ago. It's a shame that they dont just, like, cancel out I suppose, and just put it there once? Like its just a check, rather than like, idk im not a coder, lol.

The warlock is the only class (I'm aware of) that you can add spell's to that still need to be chosen to learn/prepare.
The base classes are hard coded according to what is normal for them and we can't change it.
