The remove action does not delete a character. However, when removed the character will be left in the "My Characters" collection of whoever last claimed the character.
So if you make a character and put it into a campaign, unassign it and let someone claim it, who then unassigns it, if you remove it, it'll not appear in your collection of characters but instead the of the player who last claimed it.
The character still exists, just another user has it.
I was trying to remove a character sheet from my campaign and selected the REMOVE link. It did NOT say it was going to DELETE my character.
From my collection I see a DELETE option. If both actually delete the char, Remove should say Delete.
Is there any way to get that char back?

Yeah, remove does not delete. But if it was deleted by mistake, there is no recovering it (I've seen other people do it before).
When an unassigned character is claimed, it is removed from your characters and added to their characters.
