I've added a modifier to “Set“ the “Unarmed Damage Die“ to “1d4“ to this homebrew armor, but the Unarmed Strike keeps showing up with only 1+Str damage on the sheet.
~2.5 years later, I'm trying to create a homebrew item that sets unarmed damage die to a d6 with the same options:
Set - Unarmed Damage Die
1d6
and it still does nothing when the item is equipped and attuned. Also tried using the "Fixed Value" field with values of 1d6, d6, or just 6 and none of that works either.
Seems like this modifier is just useless, which is unfortunate because there's no other way to adjust this value without manually overriding every single attack action that uses your unarmed damage die (which, on certain classes/characters, can be a lot). Also, the "Bonus - Unarmed Attacks" and "Damage - Unarmed Attacks" (with Fixed Values, not with dice) DO work and apply to everything that is based on your unarmed attacks, so it's weird that the die override does not.
Edit - Actually, I JUST now refreshed the character's sheet that has the item, and now it seems that the Set - Unarmed Damage Die is in fact working. I had been trying to get it to work for well over half an hour, and other changes I made to the item were taking effect basically instantly on the sheet (description changes, attack/damage modifier changes, etc) so I assumed the unarmed die was just broken. But apparently, that change just took longer to propagate? In any case, it seems like it DOES work using the above parameters, you just need to wait.
I believe if you want to add bonus damage dice to unarmed strikes, you cannot unfortunately. However, it seems to work for weapons. My guess is since unarmed strikes are not listed as a weapon in the weapon drop down list you cannot add bonus damage dice to your unarmed strikes. My work around was to grab a weapon that does the same damage as an unarmed strike for the character and just rename/flavor it to be their new unarmed strike.

A character (https://www.dndbeyond.com/profile/Semako/characters/25785591) wears spiky homebrew armor that, as one of its benefits, changes Unarmed Strikes to deal 1d4+Str damage and grants them the Sword of Wounding properties.

What's the problem here?
