What would be nice would be the ability to set colors for border, backgrounds, fonts, icons etc. yourself. If you combine that with an integration a selection of fitting web fonts this would allow sheets to be even more individually fitting. You could keep the predifined sets of course, so that people don't have to invest time if they don't want to. So you wouldn't only be able to make sheets in black or white, but also shades of gray or colored that might fit a theme more. Just imagine carneval characters who would enjoy a bit more color etc. And while we are at it maybe add a shareable code - so people can copy other peoples styles they like :D
I know that this would eat away a pre-order feature to a degree, but if offered for subs only this might help keep people subbed.
Its via the use of a browser extension that allows you to change the look of a website via changes in the .css of it. If you know how that stuff works its nice to get some pages in dark mode that not offer it natively i.e. or other edits fitting to your liking like changing the font or other stuff. But as mentioned by staff - it seems we will be getting a dark mode "soon" (ish). Would just be great if we would get more and nost just stop at b/w.
However, I doubt these ever become options due to the way they have set up their perks for sub and preorder. In addition, based on a mods post elsewhere, they look for colors that are:
Suitable for low light
Readable
Communicate the same information they did before
The problem with custom colors is the end user truly doesn't know if they've accidently colored things the same as a background color making things appear invisible. Even if you can change the colors of the live sheet there are so many places things could just disappear. For those of us that are savvy enough to do it ourselves if we run into this problem we fix it for our custom themes and we aren't beholden to the customer base. For the general user base it would be a nightmare of bug reports. These are likely to remain do it yourself features.
i partially agree and disagree. As i understand that it shouldn't be a single option to have a color picker as this would make things really hard for the everyone and would make building characters slower. But to add a color picker in addition to a general theme library. The issue of missing icons or text could be countered by some logical color grouping. Usually border and background i.e. are in a hard contrast i.e. as is the font. There is also the option to auto invert color depending on background color etc. to offer a contrasting result. etc.
I mean i'm not saying its done in a minute :D - you sure would need a bit of time to plan out that feature to make it dummy proof.
For sure. You can almost fully dummy proof it (there will always be the person who forgot to plug it in/flip a switch and not notice). I've been working on the one I linked on and off for a year in my down time updating it for new features and trying to find all the problems to do just that. I'm not paid to do it nor is it my main occupation it's just a hobby so they would likely be much better at it. However, I concede they have a lot more red tape to push out these sorts of features and a lot more to answer for if they don't get it right.
Don't get me wrong I would love for it to be done by the team as an option directly on the site. If I'm willing to put my own time into it, I certainly would like it to be available by default. The dark mode they are releasing will, I believe, only cover the character sheet to start with. We'll see where they take it from there. The user experience issue being rather minor if done right like you said. Hopefully, something like this does end up on a long term goal at some point. I feel they would rank it low on their priority list is all. Mostly I was saying I think we'll likely be doing it ourselves for quite some time even if they do decide to implement something like this in the future. As much as I would enjoy it as well.

I like stuff like that :D
That would be a really cool feature. Those sheets look amazing! A color picker or even just more options would be good.
How did you get the boxes to be black? Was that also custom, or is that a feature I’ve missed?

While we're at it dice customization would be nice to include in too.
