My party ran our first D&D Beyond Maps play session this weekend. We used Maps, Encounter Builder and the D&D Beyond app to run the game. Here are some things I think could be useful feature additions:
AoE Rulers
It would be nice for the DM to be able to quickly pull up a cone, cube, sphere etc tool during combat to show the range of a spell on the map.
Highlight tool for the DM
I ended up using one of the player tokens to draw attention to areas I was describing on the adventure map.
It would be helpful to have a tool that allows the DM to highlight something they're describing on the adventure map.
NPC Tokens
I had to find monster tokens to use and rename on the map as NPCs, it would be useful to have a section for NPC tokens in the campaign collection.
Player map display for DM
Some of my players only had one monitor, so we used the stream feature in Discord to show the map.
One of the players volunteered to stream the player map to the party but it would be ideal if the DM could stream it to the party.
Player/Monster targeting in Encounter Builder/Beyond app.
It would help to speed things up in large combat encounters if there was tighter integration between the Encounter Builder, mobile app and maps.
Allowing players to select their target monster or monsters to target a player once the encounter has started would help speed things up a bit.
Overall the party enjoyed the session and I think Maps has a lot of potential. With some added features and tighter integration with the Encounter Builder tool and mobile app I think Maps will be a great addition.

Hope this feedback is helpful. Cheers.
