Well seems like WoTC has officially guaranteed they will no longer get a single cent from me going forward. Being able to pick and choose what items, feats, races, ect. I wanted to buy without the need of buying an entire book for a hand full of things was the only thing that actually had me still giving these morons money.
I completely agree. I’m personally not renewing my subscriptions until the option returns. Spending more money on a book that I either already have physically or one that doesn’t have enough options that the price tag doesn’t even out just isn’t worth my money..
Hopefully Wizards rectifies this problem because it’s just going to make me abandon the platform altogether.
I'm sure it will come back. I believe they shut it off to ensure that people buy the 2024 books, and stop buying the legacy content. Once additional (non core) 2024 books start coming out, i'm sure they'll go back to allowing ala carte purchases.

Playing D&D since 1982
Have played every version of the game since Basic (Red Box Set), except that abomination sometimes called 4e.

My guess is that, if they do that, they only turn it on for the 2024 content but not for the legacy 😩. Which is very unfortunate for anyone still running a legacy campaign.
Absolutely agree with OP here. Removing a-la-carte sucks. Really loved this feature and I definitely have content i otherwise would have not purchased because of it.
It is absurd. Even if you only care about money and nothing else, how does this help you? I know everyone is different but a la carte purchases are the only thing my entire play group would spend money on here. Now I simply won’t pay for a single thing other than this membership.
This!! My husband and I own soooo many physical copies of the books(he’s a DM), and we refuse to repurchase the entire collection digitally. We loved being able to buy classes and feats here or there as needed, it was an amazing feature!! One of our players for an upcoming campaign wants to play a Oathbreaker, there’s no way he’s going to pay $30 for one class! None of our group will be purchasing anything on d&D Beyond. If we have to go back to pencil and paper, so be it. Hasbro WotC are just being greedy and driving us to recreate locked items via Homebrew.
They should bring back a la carte, we shouldn't be forced to purchase the entire book just to get any content. We personally have stopped supporting them and have been protesting on their social medias like fb about it every day since it's been taken away so please feel free to add support elsewhere. More voices everywhere helps. They took away options and an additional way to gain financial support that doesn't seem like smart decisions to me. Our group didn't use majority of the content so it doesn't make sense to pay for so much we'd never use and weren't ever interested in. There's only a few things we ever used and wanted and used to support content from all the books. Currently not subscribed anymore because they took it away.
As A DM and player on master tier i can honestly say ala carte purchases were the best option dnd beyond had. I could buy exactly the subclass or race i required without purchaing a whole book i could grab various pieces to fit a narrative or tailor something to my players requests now i'm forced to buy the whole book for 1 or 2 things i require.
Why this was removed is beyond "ba dum tss" me
I have physical copies of the books and it gets on my nerves i need to buy the whole book to use it in dnd beyond but i have the book in my hand.
We should be able to input the barcode and get a huge discount on these books we already own. I garentee you would make more money having alacart option. or everyone will just homebrew things they need which yes it take time but is so many users buy what they need as they have the physical books to remove this feels like a backwards step.

Barcodes are not unique, in fact that's literally the whole point of them. The barcode on your PHB is the same as the one on mine and so this would provide zero proof of ownership.
The books do not contain any unique identifier information to support what you're suggesting.

The Product UPC Code may not have distinct identifiers to prove proof of purchase, however, including a distinct code card in each book or supplied to brick and mortar sales stores with their product orders to be issued with each sale, similar to steam or xbox game code, could be a viable option for making physical and digital purchases to be more customer friendly and less like a being double dipped for the same product.
This, yes, will increase some minor printing costs, and some coding costs for the marketplace to load these valid codes amongst possibly some other small costs. Though in the world of technology, batch loading a list of valid codes, isn't all that costly of a process to be done.
There could be ways for this to be done to give customers that continue to support this franchise, what they are asking for.
But going forward this should be an option. A unique code that links your physical book to a digital version of the PDF and dnd beyond. maybe as a onetime thing but still an option.
OR an option where you provide proof of purchase and get the content added to your account.
Failing this just bring back a la carte purchases and problem solved. most if not all comments on here are up for purchasing exactly what they need not the whole book. when they have one in hand.
This problem already has a solution; purchase the bundles from the D&D Beyond marketplace or dndstore.wizards.com. This is the industry standard for combined digital + physical purchases.

You are completely missing the point of i've already got a physical copy
Why would i buy a bundle for £100 when i can buy exactly what i need for £1.99 a piece.
Sorry Davy but some of us aren't minted.
If you already own a physical copy, there is no solution to your problem. Even if WotC implemented unique codes in books tomorrow, your book would still be lacking a unique identifier to validate your purchase.
For people that don't own physical copies already, there is a solution in the form of bundles.
And I'm not commenting on a la carte pricing, but bundle pricing.
Also the bundles aren't £100, they're £59.99. And given you already have a physical copy, you only need the digital version which is much further from this random £100 figure.

Completely correct! There needs to be a way to make this work. I agree and this has bugged me so many times as a DM. It's not as if they will be losing any income either. In fact, it COULD make more. A la carte is desperately needed and makes everything so much smoother and better connected for players.

Not sure the need to comment. a la carte is what i'm saying is needed if you are suggesting an alternative, bundles isn't it.
Bring back À la carte !
