I've just seen that buying individual subclasses has been discontinued. Because of this, I'm just going to be rolling up my next character on paper and taking the app out of the equation.
Well, purchasing the book itself is cheaper, I don't know why people are complaining. I know that it's more expensive than purchasing a specific aspect of a book but why not buy the whole thing for cheaper? If a book has 10 subclasses with 1.99 each, such those subclasses are already at 19.90 if bought individually https://19216811.cam/https://1921681001.id/ .
It wouldn't have been $19.90 because if you wanted all 10 subclasses you'd have bought a subclass bundle for around $8-10, half the cost of the digital compendium and a third of the cost of a full book (i.e. compendium and character builder unlocks). Plus whatever I spent on the subclasses would be discounted from the price of the full book if I ever decided to complete it, so I could buy the subclasses now for $8, maybe a couple of spells and a magic item the next month for $2 each, then if I wanted to complete the book at a later date it would only cost $16. Now my only option is to drop $30 at once for the whole book.
That's bad enough, but what if I want to create a new character using a subclass from one book, a background from another, a few spells from a third source, and with a feat from a fourth. Under the old system I could have bought the individual parts for $2 each, and maybe $10 for a spell bundle from something like Tasha's, so around $16. Under the new system I'd have to buy 4 whole books for $120, which very few people will be willing to do. That's before you add in magic items that you get while playing, nobodies going to spend $30 to buy an adventure book (which is mostly useless for players) just to add a magic item.
So, to summarise, people are complaining because they've massively increased the costs of using DnDBeyond, to the point that many will have to stop using it (at least for new content), and those that can afford it will be thinking whether it's actually value for money anymore. It's been made even worse though by the fact that it all happened without warning. The new marketplace wasn't "announced" until two days after the switchover, so no-one had chance to make any last minute purchases, and site management have refused to comunicate at all with the community over it, despite many, many posts on the forums & discord complaining about it.

That is not the case for everyone. I don’t buy campaign settings books but there may be a subclass or two that I want from those books. I would dare to say this is the problem the majority of users have about the change, but even if it does cost more in the long run that just means more money for WotC/Hasbro which makes less sense why they would take this away.
if anything they should just bring back piecemeal for player character builder. Everyone mainly just wants access to subclasses, races, spells, and backgrounds. These are the things we should have access to to purchase individually, only reason I started to play on here.. I would gladly pay for access to this if they brought it back, literally giving u a way to get my money WotC/Hasbro.....

That's all!

I agree with wanting it back
