Many of my campaigns take place online, specifically on Roll20. Let me start by stating that I hate Roll20. Roll20 is such a clunky, messy tool that I begrudgingly accept using it because I'm familiar enough with it and the Beyond20 browser extension makes it's tolerable enough. I don't want suggestions for an alternative like foundry or fantasy grounds or whatever. It's fine if it works for you but it isn't for me. I don't need special lighting or effects or hotbars for my D&D games. I want the bare minimum without a ton of feature bloat.
Anyway, I like Maps so far. Thread over.
But actually there's still some functionality I wish Maps had:
1. A simple undo/redo feature. I'm astounded that hasn't been added yet. Like if I accidentally moved a token and forgot where it was originally, I want to easily undo that. 2. The ability to add an "aura" to a token. For torch light, paladin and spell auras, etc. Some way to have a sticky shape surrounding a token and customize its distance. 3. A button for a selected token that opens its associated character sheet or statblock in a new tab. I'd love shortcuts. 4. A way to track a token's HP and AC. I want that kind of information "at a glance" especially with a token heavy map. 5. Token markers for stuff like condition effects. The colors rings are "fine" but they lack actual context. 6. The ability to add text to a map. Sometimes you gotta add a label to something. 7. More draw and overlay colors please. <3 8. Some sort of implementation with Encounters like showing a simplified initiative/turn order tracker widget in Maps. 9. Finally, some sort of music player with playlists. I don't care if it's a Spotify integration or whatever but that would seal the deal in an instant. I understand this is probably the least likely to happen but I can wish.
I don't know if the D&D Beyond devs read this stuff but, from one UX/UI designer to another, you're doing great so far. I'd love to use Maps full-time and hopefully it enters beta soon with a few more tasty features. I'll keep playing with Maps and Encounters to figure out how I can start incorporating it.
If you want to provide feedback for Maps, please use the feedback survey found on the Maps landing page, or accessible from the grey tab in the bottom left of Maps itself. The forums are not an avenue for Maps feedback at this time.
