I am thinking about getting the new 2024 books, one of them for myself (The players handbook) and the other two for a friend of mine who likes to DM.
If I buy the bundle of physical books, are the digital codes seperate, meaning Can I send my freind the DM handbook and monster manual codes for her to use. (Ill be sending the books themselves to her for Christmas.
I don't think so? When I preordered the physical+digital bundle, all licenses went to my account. That bundle is for you to get the digital versions for $10 each.
As I understand it, if you buy them on DDB, there's no codes, the digital books go straight to your account.
However, I know it's possible to buy books on DDB as gifts, and then a code gets involved. I've never done it, nor do I know if you can gift the physical-digital bundles, though it seems likely.
You'd lose out on the special bonus items for preordering the books all together, but you wouldn't be out any money -- the bundle of all three books doesn't save you anything, it's just a convenience.
(Another complication for your gifting plan is that the Monster Manual won't be out until next year.)
