When 5e was released in 2014, Sorcerer lost some great high level single-target spells they previously had, such as Mind Blank and Foresight. The reason for this, at least in my opinion, was fairly obvious: all of these options would be a bit too powerful when used with Twinned Spell.
However, now that Twinned Spell has been changed so that Mind Blank and Foresight cannot be Twinned, it feels less like Sorcerer losing spells for balance, and more like Sorcerer just losing spells. Added to this is that Clockwork Soul's theme of machinery, order, and planning fits perfectly with spells like Mind Blank and Foresight.
