It would be wonderful to have a random item generator within the D&D Beyond suite of tools. I loved this site even before the revamp and enjoy it even more now. This would be a nice feature to have when handing out loot after an encounter! It would be awesome to be able to do this from within D&D Beyond, instead of looking up the tables rolling, etc., etc. or having to open a different website or tool. Unlike the book, it would be nice if it were to roll specific items as opposed to "a simple melee weapon", as well. All of this would be broken down by rarity, like the guide, and encounter difficulty. Maybe include a horde feature to produce multiple items and coins at once for something like a treasure room or when you slay a dragon?
I would also like to see something like this. I am using the DMG tables and some online tools for loot generation at the moment, but I have had other magic items unlocked in DnD Beyond, and would like to see things like the Magic Paper Planes which I unlocked with the Waterdeep Dragon Heist to show up. It would be great to have a tool that upgrades the loot tables to include items as we unlock them.
There could also be a great opportunity to integrate a loot generator with an encounter generator. I've noticed that there has also been some suggestions to create a random encounter generator - or at least an encounter difficulty calculator - added into DnD Beyond as a handy dungeon master's tool. If there was such a system, having a loot generator as part of the system would be extremely convenient.
Say a party has a random encounter and runs into Kobolds and A Dragon Shield.
The loot generator could potentially understand that kobolds carry daggers and slings, and that the Dragon Shield has a spear and a dragon scale shield. Then there is a random amount of gold generated, and potentially a few interesting stolen items which the kobolds were taking back to their nests.
Magic items could also be applied to monster stats with an integrated tool like this.
I understand that this would likely be a lot of work, but it would be an extremely convenient and attractive one stop encounter/treasure generator
I agree! An encounter generator would also be a very nice tool to have especially if it's as integrated as you describe. There was kind of already a thread for that, which was the only reason I didn't mention it here. But that's definitely something I'd like to see, too!
I would imagine they could potentially complete this in waves; first getting the item generator to work, and/or/then getting an encounter generator set up, and then finding a way to integrate the two.
I would love to have something like this! Being able to have a random generator of all the magic items, equipment, and spells (spell Scrolls) I own in DnD beyond would be amazing. For right now any generator I use wont use all the magic items I have availible and that feels bad. DnDBeyond could do this and have only the items and such you own. This would be super Rad!

Hey all - so I still don't see a solution for this going into 2020, so I created a duct tape solution that does the trick. A spreadsheet that uses page numbers and rows for randomization! You can even choose rarity and collection (public, standard, personal). Hope this helps!
