Just a little bit of feedback regarding the inventory and clothes. It would be really cool if we could equip things like robes or fine clothes or clothes in general, in the same way that we can for armor. This would be cool because right now, it is a bit pointless having them in our inventory. They have a weight cost and we can't do anything with them, other than carry them around with us. So right now, its pointless having the ability to add them to our inventories and we might as well remove them, save the weight and just roleplay wearing them, because clothes don't give us any mechanical benefits and we cant even equip them.
Cheers

While indeed normal clothes do not have any numerical mechanical impact (reason why they cannot be "equipped") they are far from being useless to be listed in the inventory of a character.
As many other things (tinderbox, tent, waterskin etc) they are still important in specific events. Example: the party find themselves near a very small village, with barely 12 houses, a church and a watering hole, with the closest city worthy of the name several days of travel away; close by there is a huge castle, overseeing the land and apparently the source of some shady dealings. The family living there is known for their refined taste and to throw parties every so often. The PCs, after hearing of the troubles the village is having supposedly from the castle (corruption radiating from the castle poisoning the land, children disappearing, what have you), decides to investigate the castle, but they do not want risking angering a powerful and influential family by sneaking in and creating a scene, so they decide they will participate in one of the parties in the castle, taking place the following night, and investigate from within.
Now, such a social occasion, and in the house of a family with refined tastes, demands proper presentation, and the PCs are in need of Fine Clothes, and the DM is one of those who prefers the "if you don't have it in your inventory, you don't have it with you" approach.
Having them in your Inventory with a weight is indicating that you are in fact wearing them, it is not an indication of them being in your backpack and your walking around naked. Just like the clothes you wear in everyday life your wearing them but they count as being part of your carried inventory, when you put them on the weight of the items are still there this just consolidates the list. But you can go in to the outfit on your online character sheet and customize the style and what not like I did for this character.
Short response: clothes don't need to be equipable because they don't have an effect. Clothes do need to be in your inventory because you can't wear what you dont have.
Maybe when inventory sorting and containers are finally implemented there will be a section for what you are wearing.
I think D&D beyond just needs to create 'non-magic' homebrew -- then one could make different clothing items and equip them. I suppose one could 'take the effects' off of a magic item... e.g., make a 'ring of nothing' or a 'cloak of invisibility that has no invisibility' ... but they should allow folks to make awesome 'common' items if they wish.

Guess you can see where I am going with this...
