A curiosity question - why are the high elves split into two main factions the moon elves and sun elves? And how did they get their names, for example are moon elves more nocturnal or do they worship a moon god etc?
I have previously read the moon elves section of that book, and although it does detail their philosophy and how they are a lot more open minded and wreckless than sun elves, it still does not give any clues as to why they are actually called “moon” elves. No relation or clue as to worshipping the moon or anything like that

Skin color, mostly. Sun elves are gold and warm colors, moon elves are blue, black and silverish with cool tones. There's also the fact that, culturally speaking, sun elves are very static and xenophobic, where as moon elves are mercurial and flexible.

That is where I thought that got their name from—being ever-changing yet predictable, like the phases of the moon.
That and their skin colour.

Hey everyone,

You can read all about Moon Elves and Sun Elves in the Sword Coast Adventurer's Guide. This goes into their lore in the Forgotten Realms (where the terms originate from) in more depth.
