@Yurei1453 Actually, I don't see any way for an enveloped creature to end its Restrained condition while inside the pod, as the description simply states "While enveloped, the target is restrained".
Sure seems like the only way to escape the pod is to kill the plant from the inside (while Restrained the whole time) or to be rescued via a successful DC 15 Strength check.
On the other hand, I also don't see any way for the Bodytaker Plant to continue attacking the enveloped target, since that target now "has total cover against attacks and effects originating outside the pod":
The Vine Lash attack gives no indication that it originates inside the pod... in fact, it appears the Grappled condition might end if the Entrapping Pod envelops the target?
Unless the Grapple is maintained, the plant can't even use Entrapping Pod again on the enveloped target, because the pod only targets creatures Grappled by the plant!?
If we assume the Vine Lash *can* originate inside the pod (or at least continue the Grapple), then the plant *could* use Entrapping Pod repeatedly against the enveloped target, potentially on each of the plant's turns. Forcing the enveloped creature to repeat that save-or-suck until the target fails its save, would certainly make the pod a lot more deadly.
However, none of that is what I find grievously problematic; the problem as I see it, lies with the Podling's statblock:
Whereas some other doppelganger creatures are specifically granted some of the original creature's capabilities, *nothing* in the Podling's statblock states that it gets any of the enveloped creature's skills, weapon proficiencies, movement types, or any other traits or features. It's basically a visual copy with the original's "memories", but *none* of the capabilities. That DC 20 check to discover the truth, would almost never come up, because the Podling is revealed "automatically" as soon as it fails to perform any of the original creature's "behaviors" (such as using a sword, or tools, or moving at a normal combat pace).
I'd *like* to assume that the Podling can use the original's body shape & memories to mimic the original's movement type, survival traits (such as Water Breathing), weapon proficiencies, lore/arcana/tool skills, spellcasting, etc. ... but the rules as written don't appear to support that.
