Dont know if this has been mentioned, but the benefit I see of having Unarmed Fighting on a Ranger is keeping your hands free for spellcasting (especially since as an optional rule in Tashas you can use druidic foci). But thats about it

Ok, as far as MC is concerned a monk can already do 1d8 with a quarterstaff for their Action at level 1, only the BA attack/FoB uses the lower die and that picks up soon enough so it’s only 1-2 points of damage difference, on average. And if they multiclass with Ranger then they have access to versatile martial weapons that, with Tasha’s Dedicated Weapon, can be used as a monk weapon so now they are at d10 damage for their Action attack(s).
I don’t have a problem giving rangers the unarmed fighting style, the more options the better
And, if you go Astral Self you don’t have to worry about STR because you can use your WIS for your grapple checks while the arms are active. Grapple with your normal arms and attack with the astral arms (the ability says they only need to be active to use WIS, and you can’t grapple with the arms anyway as they can only be used for unarmed strikes)
