I've recently purchased the Tomb of Annihilation board game and finally my wife can play DnD with me!
I'm having some trouble with some of the rules regarding treasure cards and deck make up during the initial campaign opening. I know it's a board game and I can do whatever the players want but both my wife and I want to play it as pure to the rules as possible but the Rulebook nor the Adventure Book doesn't seem to answer some basic questions i have regarding Treasure Cards and how the individual decks are created.
In the Adventure book at the end of each adventure there is a section that says:
Aftermath: if the heroes complete the scenario....etc etc Get rewarded gold and "Make the following changes to the decks"
Remove
Treasure Cards (1 Pouch of Copper)
Monster Cards (1 Straw Man)
Encounters Cards (None)
Add
Treasure Cards (1 Bag of Silver)
Monster Cards (None)
Encounters Cards (1 Assassin Vine)
Now what I'm having a problem with is the makeup of the decks in the first place.
If I'm starting the game with ALL of the Treasure, Monster, and Encounter Cards, how do I ADD any?
If I'm starting the game with a set amount of cards in each respective deck, where are the instructions on what cards I should be including in the opening deck for the beginning of the campaign?
Second issue is regarding treasure cards. Many of the item cards say "Flip Over After Use". I get that part but what about when each individual adventure is over? Do the treasure cards that we found during the adventure and used get put back into the treasure pile deck or do we just reset them and use them on the next adventure fully loaded and ready to go?
Why I ask is we have just finished the second adventure and we have a ton of really powerful Items in hand and are actually running out of available items to draw. Soon it will just be money in the treasure deck and we will have all of the items in the game in our inventory making everything very trivial.
Can anyone give me insight into how it's MEANT to be setup? I LOVE the game, and being able to bring my wife into the DnD world is a dream come true.
You might have better luck asking in a more boardgame-focused forum, but as it happens I bought some time ago Wrath of Ashardalon (mainly for the minis) and played a couple of games with it so I might be of some assistance.
If I remember correctly, you should find the setup needed for each adventure right at the beginning of it. It should tell you what to set aside for that specific adventure in terms of monsters, treasures and events. Everything else not specified should be kept in its respective deck.
