As some of you might recall, I started a forum a while ago about a Muppets D&D campaign, and had some very helpful advice on how to start this campaign. This led me to one interesting idea: What D&D classes would some video game characters be? I had so many ideas, but I want to hear yours.
Let's start with the Mario Series. Yes, I'm digging up an old debate on what class good old Mario Jumpman Mario would be, and I'm roping other Mario characters into this too! I think this would be a fun opportunity to have a laugh, as well as a nice chance to do some over-analyzing. I can't wait to hear what wacky multiclasses some of these characters would fall into. Let's-a Go!

Maybe monk for Mario. Sunsoul specifically for fire flower mimiced by radiant bolts. Step of wind for better jumps, and a lot of his games have him attacking by punching. A DM might also let you flavor an unarmed strike as jumping on someone. Flavor club or mace as a hammer like he uses in some games for your monk weapon.
I suppose you could also argue paladin to find steed with yoshi as your mount.
I once jokingly made a Tortle build: Draconic soul sorcerer and Conquest paladin... Yes: I literally tried to get as close to Bowser as possible because it amused me. In all honesty though; koopas would be an interesting challenge to make as a playable race given the wide variety we see of them... probably would have a buttload of subraces ala Tieflings.
The question: would Luigi be a copy-paste of Mario? Or would he multi-class into something like ghost-slayer Blood Hunter or something Rogue-ish to differentiate him?
I think Peach would be a Spore Druid - Necromancer Multiclass. It's a bit of a grim way to take the character, but you can flavor your zombies as Toads.

I feel like Bowser would be an artificer, purely for the amount of engineering in every castle he has (plus the flying ships, you know, they're a bit of a giveaway!)
I'd thought about Bowser as an artificer; the only issue being that canonically, Bowser isn't particularly bright: so he wouldn't really have the stats for it; hence why I went with draconic sorcerer. The koopalings on the other hand: there would probably be at least 3 that would fall into Artificer.
Larry would be an Artificer/Wizard Multiclass, as would Ludwig. Larry is an Evocation Wizard, as we see him control water and hurl fire. Ludwig is an Illusion Wizard, as we see him make duplicates of himself.
Morton is probably a Fighter/Artificer. He uses large weapons (specifically hammers) efficiently, but he's not crazy enough to be a Barbarian.
Roy could be an Artillerist Artificer. He's shown up with cannons in many of the games he's in.
Wendy might be a Artificer/Bard, given how she uses fashion accessories as weapons in some games, but there isn't really a D&D class about doing that, hence bard.
Iggy and Lemmy are probably Artificer/Warlocks, as they both use potent magic and are both a little nuts.
Bowser Jr. is probably an Artificer/Sorcerer, as his fire attacks come from him, not some magic staff.

An argument could be made for Mario being a Celestial Warlock in Paper Mario, gaining additional powers from the star spirits he rescues along the way.
Peach in Super Princess Peach could be a Sorcerer with her "vibe" magic (joy, gloom, rage and calm) to shape spells to help save Mario in that particular game, or perhaps they're different expressions of the Barbarian's Rage mechanic. In Paper Mario she's very much a Rogue, sneaking around her castle and liaising with Twink, a star spirit.
Wario I can see being a Monk for the melee capabilities, but I don't know enough about the mechanics to say which sub-class. He's virtually indestructable in his own games; what would kill Mario transforms him. Fire makes him run faster ablaze, zombies turn him into sludge, vampires turn him into bats... Way of the Four Elements? Not that he's very zen, even when he's got his treasure horde back from Captain Syrup.
Super Mario World 2: Yoshi's Island is where things get a bit strange. Baby Mario could be argued to be a Beastmaster Ranger with Yoshi as his pet... but Yoshi has his own pet, Poochy. Poochy could be argued to be a familiar as he has limited combat efficiency, however.
The different Kongs would of course have a level in Bard, Candy Kong in particular, going by Donkey Kong 64. I'd like to think Cranky and Funky Kong would have some levels in artifice for their potions and artillery, respectively.
Zero is the most important number in D&D: Session Zero sets the boundaries and the tone; Rule Zero dictates the Dungeon Master (DM) is the final arbiter; and Zero D&D is better than Bad D&D.
"Let us speak plainly now, and in earnest, for words mean little without the weight of conviction."
Kammy Koopa - Some breed of Wizard, probably War Magic or Conjuration - She rides on a broomstick and casts spells; D&D has no "witch" class so Wizard it is
Would Yoshi be a steed, given that Mario rides him often? Or would he be his own character, given how he seems very capable of combat when Mario's away? I could see this going either way.

I'm gonna go off of Mario RPG to try and stat out these characters, so let's go:
Right off the bat, I agree with Nyr_Ventus on Mario as a Sun Soul Monk... Mario's Jump is an Unarmed Strike, and other than that he exclusively uses punches and simple weapons. The Sun Soul features very easily can be reflavored to match his Fire Flower abilities. I'd also make him a Stout Halfling... he's obviously Brave, debatably lucky, and he eats spotted mushrooms casually, implying some innate resistance to poison.
Mallow, pretty obviously, I feel, would be an Air Genasi Stormsoul Sorcerer. I feel like you don't really need to explain him beyond that.
Peach, to me, is a Human Bard, and I'm leaning toward College of Eloquence. She's definitely the healer of the group, but she has a lot of boosts and such she does for the party. Eloquence definitely fits her personality as the beloved leader of a Kingdom who manages unfaltering loyalty without necessarily being a particularly commanding presence. For the race, and hear me out for this one... Variant Human with the Tavern Brawler feat. Peach almost exclusively uses non-weapons as her primary weapons... her most powerful weapon in the game is a frickin' Frying Pan. She's as comfortable supporting her allies with heals and boosts as she is beating the crap out of someone with a parasol.
For Bowser I know everyone is going to say "Tortle", but hear me out... Dragonborn (Metallic) (Brass) with the Dragon Hide feat reflavored as being a proper shell and not just tough scales. We're going with Metallic because it has a secondary breath weapon that deals status effects, and although Bowser in Mario RPG mostly focuses on just brute strength, many of the spells he learns dole out status effects. As for class, I'm going to say Spirit Guardian Barbarian, with the Spirits reflavored as being his army of mooks that assist in combat.
Finally, Geno, the living doll, pretty obviously becomes a Warforged, and I'm inclined to make him into an artillerist Artificer. Geno is very tech-based with his abilities... firing guns, transforming into a giant cannon. He's still a blaster class, obviously, as he's got the big damage dealing spells in the game, and the Artillerist is the best artificer to accomplish that flavor. I'm open to suggestions if someone feels like a different class would fit him better... as much as Artillerist so perfectly covers the flavor of a character like Geno, it lacks the truly devastating high level blaster spells that a full-caster class can accomplish.
The question: would Luigi be a copy-paste of Mario? Or would he multi-class into something like ghost-slayer Blood Hunter or something Rogue-ish to differentiate him?
I think Luigi might be something different entirely. He has a separate kind of fire magic from Smash (his green fire ignores gravity), and he can use strange machinery effectively (Poltergusts definitely seem like 'new' technology in the Mushroom Kingdom). I personally would make Luigi a 3-way multiclass between Rogue, Artificer, and Shadow Sorcerer.
Let's start with Rogue. We've seen Luigi clamber over and across walls outside of buildings in the Luigi's Mansion series, hence Second-Story Work, and Sneak Attack could be flavored as flashing a light in someone's face before leaping in with the Poltergust. He'd probably take Thief for his Subclass, as he has opened his fair share of complicated locks and security systems. We know that Luigi isn't above stealing all that gold he finds in those mansions, so it'd be in-character too.
Next up, we have Artificer. Gust and Wind Wall would be thematic spells for him, and he might have a Wind Fan infusion. I don't know too much about Artificers, so I can't make it a perfect fit, but I've come this far!
Finally, we have Shadow Sorcerer. Green-Flame Blade and Fire Bolt would be thematic spells, as well as detect evil and good. (we can just flavor it as some gadget from Prof. Gadd) Hound of Ill Omen would allow a Polterpup companion in battle, too! Subtle Spell would be thematic too, as we don't see Luigi say something special when he chucks fire at stuff.
That's all I got for why Luigi would be a potentially disastrous 3-way multiclass. Let me know if you have any other ideas!

Mr. L, King Wart, and Daisy are all more obscure characters. They don't come immediately to mind when we think of Mario characters, and it would be nice to give them a chance to shine.

Well, Donkey Kong is definitely a barbarian.
Only spilt the party if you see something shiny.
Ariendela Sneakerson, Half-elf Rogue (8); Harmony Wolfsbane, Tiefling Bard (10); Agnomally, Gnomish Sorcerer (3); Breeze, Tabaxi Monk (8); Grace, Dragonborn Barbarian (7); DM, Homebrew- The Sequestered Lands/Underwater Explorers; Candlekeep

Some further ideas:
Waluigi - Arcane trickster Rogue - I mean look at him; you know he can pull some weird tricksy nonsense.
Rosalina - Light domain Cleric/Circle of Stars Druid - Reasons obvious

Birdo - Glamour Bard - Meme
