I am running the first DnD character I have played in a long, long while (a sword and board battlemaster 5 / rogue 2), and am looking for tips on feats and battlemaster maneuvers.
I play the character to help control the battle map for the party and also fulfill his RP role as personal guard / warden type (which I envision as him being fairly alert). His current feats are Sentinel and Shield Master, and the DM has allowed me to use the sentinel feat to impose disadvantage on an attack targeting an adjacent ally (rather than a free attack on the attacking enemy).
Battlemaster maneuvers are: bait and switch (some ally movement plus defense buff); maneuvering attack (a "get out of jail" card for squishier party members); and disarming attack. Combined with the shield master bonus action bash, these have come in very handy. I took the two rogue levels for the bonus action dash or disengage to help (safely) get from one point to another on the battle map.
My question, which feats and maneuvers would you recommend from here?
For feats, I'm considering:
Observant: +5 passive investigation and perception (this would increase each to 23 and 20, respectively). +1 to Int to give him a 14.
Skill Expert: To gain expertise in perception or insight (he already has expertise in athletics and investigation from his rogue levels). +1 to strength
Crusher: Move mobs on the battlemap (combines with shield bash from shield master nicely), +1 strength (along with skill expert, this would make Str = 20)
For his next maneuvers, I'm considering:
Pushing attack: (to add even more mob movement to go along with shield master and possibly crusher)
Tactical assessment: add superiority die to investigation, history, or insight checks (I love this because it can be used out of combat, so superiority dice can be refreshed more easily with a short rest before they are needed again).
Any concerns about the above, or any better ideas?
