Looks like it has potential, though there is about 80% chance none of those scenes actually appear in the movie itself. If what they do present is remotely like the clips, it could well be an enjoyable watch. I think rules-lawyering the movie will ruin it, as they are going to take huge liberties with details and such, for "Hollywood" sake. I'm looking forward to it now, after watching the trailer.

Active characters:
Carric Aquissar, elven wannabe artist in his deconstructionist period (Archfey warlock) Lan Kidogo, mapach archaeologist and treasure hunter (Knowledge cleric) Mardan Ferres, elven private investigator obsessed with that one unsolved murder (Assassin rogue) Xhekhetiel, halfling survivor of a Betrayer Gods cult (Runechild sorcerer/fighter)
Classic D&D spells and abilities like Dimension Door and Wild Shape? Yep. A party that might have three brain cells total, all of which are sloshing around in alcohol? Yep. Mimics? Displacer Beasts? Gelatinous Cubes? Yep. Yep. Yep. Frankly inexplicable choice to set the trailer to Zep? YEP.
Waiting for a complain train somewhere saying it looked "too fun." To me, all the monsters and setting work, which is well done, aside, what really matters is that in a couple of minutes the principals looked and felt like a D&D party,. That shot of them walking through the town square, the body language nailed the mix of cohesion and everyone wanting to go their own direction that's at the core of so many groups. Nailed it, the trailer showed something that I feel spoke to the game. Optimistic the rest of the movie will deliver the goods too.

Jander Sunstar is the thinking person's Drizzt, fight me.
I'd kind of assumed it would be terrible but this might be decent or even good. Will have to see.
I don't really care about rules lawyering. It's a movie. let the movie make changes to suit the movie. No need to to nit pick over little details. Consider the Director the DM of this adventure and free to change whatever details they want for their 'campaign' here.
Highlights for me we’re the two fools who decided to dive straight into a Gelatinous Cube…the black dragon drenching a battlefield in acid…and the mimic chest.
And any opportunity to watch Michelle Rodriguez kick some rear is a healthy bonus.

What's the odds that someone will create threads asking how to recreate those characters in 5e?

Oh, I think this is more an over under on how long it will take before those threads take to start, not a gamble on if they will.
Personally, if I were Wizards, I would build their character sheets on D&D Beyond and distribute the link to the sheets - some easy advertising for their movie here on Beyond, and for Beyond over for folks following the movie.
Yea, just to nip some complaints that might come up... These seem like footage that hasn't been colour corrected. The SPFX are definitely early passes or just a stand in for the tailor. Take that black dragon, it's clearly all flat colour. Perhaps a motion pass, and early stage of the shot. By the time the movie version is seen there will likely be 35 other layers of colour and detail onto that one shot.
But yea, I loved it! I really, really love that the story is dead simple and as a DM I love that the motivation is built in. They're thieves! I mean rogues. ;p

If be surprised if they don’t release official versions of the characters, probably here on dndbeyond. Seems right in line with the sort of freebies they’ve been putting out lately. Maybe even a module, or other adventure so you can play through the movie.
Hi,
Hope this is appropriate to drop here. the first trailer!
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IiMinixSXII
Mimic! Owlbear! Chris Pine!
This looks like a lot of fun.
Only spilt the party if you see something shiny.
Ariendela Sneakerson, Half-elf Rogue (8); Harmony Wolfsbane, Tiefling Bard (10); Agnomally, Gnomish Sorcerer (3); Breeze, Tabaxi Monk (8); Grace, Dragonborn Barbarian (7); DM, Homebrew- The Sequestered Lands/Underwater Explorers; Candlekeep
Looking good i must say many DnD elements in it!
The first time I watched I, I was rules-lawyering. But then I let go, and it does seem like it could be fun.

I've just never been a CGI, over the top action, popcorn movie kind of guy.
I'm in.

Well, that’s a relief. Looks good!

Did you notice the box/chest in the cube?

Amy Dallen and Michael Galvis here at DNDB break down the trailer...

Looks promising so far. I'll definitely see it in theatres with my D&D group.
Please check out my homebrew, I would appreciate feedback:
Spells, Monsters, Subclasses, Races, Arcknight Class, Occultist Class, World, Enigmatic Esoterica forms
