I found the UA to be pretty good. Liked most things, disliked a few. But I was just thinking about a few things and wanted to see what others thought.
The D20 Test is a catch all term for attack rolls, saving throws, and ability checks. Do you think we will see changes in spells, features, mechanics that currently cover one or two of these “tests” to now include all three?
For example, Bless allows you to roll a d4 and add it to an attack roll or saving throw. Do you think this might be changed to add a d4 to a D20 Test instead, so ability checks are included?
With the change to inspiration, does this make every character basically have a “Lite” version of the redesigned Lucky feat? I guess the benefit of the feat is you can give yourself advantage after you roll, where inspiration you have to announce before rolling. But if the changes to Lucky stand, does inspiration step on its toes a bit. Is it still worth giving up an ASI for, unless when you get feats gets changed as well.
It’s been pointed out other places, but if grappling changes stay will we have to retcon the new Plasmoid race, that came out the same week as this UA, to allow the Amorphous ability give advantage on saving throws to escape grapples since it is no longer a contested ability check?
Its a long way before any of this gets finalized so much may change.
I don't see why Bless would need a d20 challenge for the caster. It uses an action and a spell slot to offer a (presumably) willing recipient a 1-4 bonus on their own d20 check.
If the spell said, "Give advantage to up to three creatures of choice within range" you would have a more valid reason to require a d20 roll, imo. Rolling a 2 as a target of bless looks a lot different if you get a re-roll rather than a +d4.
The costs of the current Bless spell are adequate compared to the effect without requiring a d20 check on the caster.

That's not the proposal. It's the language regarding the target, so Bless would also be able to be applied to skill checks on top of the current options of attack rolls and saving throws.

If you're not willing or able to to discuss in good faith, then don't be surprised if I don't respond, there are better things in life for me to do than humour you. This signature is that response.

I would like to see things like, "you get advantage on tests you make related to fishing," or "you get disadvantage on tests you make to interact with people you find attractive." You could get so much more narrative with it. "Tests you make to bring ruin to your sworn nemesis," "tests you make to maintain a lie," etc.

Ah, I understand. Thanks for the clarity.
I guess we'll see!
