Hello all, I am curious about how does the damage dice change for some weapons when a Rune Knight grows larger... What would his damage be for a Maul (2d6) when it becomes Large? when it becomes Huge? What would the damage be for a Longbow (1d8) when it becomes Large? when it becomes Huge? Does the characters Unarmed damage become larger? if it starts at 1d8, what would it be when he becomes Large? how about when he is Huge?
I mostly think the second is correct RAW but the first right in terms of fun. All in all you should discuss with your DM and the other players and come to a group decision…
As far as I'm aware, this is how the damage calculations work, I used Maul as an example, but the increase in damage is the same for ranged weapons and (Usually*) unarmed strikes as well.
Medium character with Maul - 2d6 + str
Medium character with Maul after using Giant's Might at level 3 - 2d6 + 1d6 + str (Character becomes large sized)
Medium character with Maul after coming under the effect of Enlarge/Reduce - 2d6 + 1d4 + str (Character becomes large sized)
Medium character with Maul after using Giant's Might at level 3, then coming under the effect of Enlarge/Reduce - 2d6 + 1d6 + 1d4 + str (Character becomes huge sized)
Medium character with Medium Maul after coming under the effect of Enlarge/Reduce, then using Giant's Might at level 3 - 2d6 + 1d6 + 1d4 + str (Character becomes large sized)
*Enlarge/Reduce always increases weapon damage by 1d4 and can stack with Giant's Might. However, the spell description only says "weapons deal an extra 1d4", not unarmed strikes, but I think most DM's would apply the buff to unarmed strikes as well.
If you're referring to the DMG rule that states a large sized Weapon deals double the damage of a medium sized Weapon of the same kind, that does not apply to Weapon's whose size becomes temporarily large due to spells like Enlarge/Reduce or abilities like Giant's Might, instead the damage increase is whatever the description for the spell/ability says it is. Examples where the double damage does apply includes: Duergar NPC's will double the damage dice of their weapons with their enlarge ability (Duergar PC's, do not however) and the potion of giant size will make a character huge and triple the damage dice of their weapons.
Bizarrely, if a medium character uses the giants might ability at level 3, then picks up a maul sized for a large creature, they would deal 4d6 + 1d6 + str damage (Depending on DM interpretation of the Giant's Might ability and larger weapon rules in chapter 9 of the DMG)
There is no base/hidden rule to keep track of weapon damage increases due to size anymore. The effect that changes your size will tell you what effect, if any, it has on your damage.

This dude argues they should do more damage:

This one largely rebuffs their arguments:

It says in the rules.. thats it;
it was an example, ok... what if you are Enlarged? does the weapon do more damage? Or if you are a Druegar and grow?

Enlarged has it’s own effect; 1d4.
They stack if you do Rune Knight, then Enlarge.
