I agree it isn’t your character it is the game and the DM. By companions do you mean summons like the Druid using Conjure Amimals to summon 8 creatures? Of that they have followers/NPC’s that work for them?
It’s the DM’s responsibility to keep things moving so if players are taking too long then the DM needs to say something.
Talk to your DM politely. And what level are you that you are fighting gods/demigods?
when I lost my character to the demigod I was a level 11 sun soul monk, I would've probably survived if one of my party members didn't confuse me about my damage. my new character is a human fighter that I based off of some halo Spartans and he was level 12 when the party had to fight the Norse gods, I chose to sit back and not engage but Thor kept picking on me and hitting me when I wasn't in combat. my party all have some sort of companions other than me, the barbarian/druid/fighter has a horn that can call celestials, the necromancer has a bone golem and a ton of skeletons or zombies and is still summoning more creatures like elemental's or Fey's (the dm decided that next session they will put a limit on summons), then the other barbarian has a frog with a spear, some sort of harpy, and a dragon, it really makes me mad that I cant find a single thing to have as a companion since almost everything has free will or wants to kill us, and the fact that when I do hit thing they are inanimate objects I need to get through like door, and when I hit them with my pushing attack and have a 17 in strength it only opens an inch. very annoying. during last session I was able to get up the stairs then had to sit there as my character was blinded to a tabaxi and got skipped over, then when I was finally able to move everything was dead. we also have two dms so we normally merge the parties but we have quests that require us to split the parties, this was one of them, I think that the main dm felt bad for me and allowed me to know what is about to happen, I also gave him a suggestion on fusing like in dragon ball since my monk was a saiyan so he thought it would be cool for me to use both my Spartan and monk then fuse them. so maybe that'll help me move and kill things.
sorry that most of this is just me complaining once again lol
