Why are the Kuo-Toa gods at least, according to the monster book, fake, like I know it’s contradictory to have several sea gods but there is many different pantheons in most worlds why is the Kun-toa any different
Kuo-Toa are divorced from reality due to a number of experiments and mutilations they suffered at the hands of Mind Flayers. The Illithids broke their minds and, in so doing, gave them the unique for Kuo-Toa’s subconscious thoughts to influence the world.
This results in them being able to make their own gods. If enough Kuo-Toa believe something is a god—be it an Aboleth, a particularly shiny rock, or just a belief—the collective might of their subconscious powers will create a god where one did not previously exist. And that god is very much not fake—it might have been imagined, but it is very, very real.
ah I see, I misinterpreted it as them saying when enough believe the subconscious created it but not as god, more like a horribly mutated creature that dies shortly afterwards and has no powers. Okay thanks a lot for answering my question.
I'm not sure I'd call what's created a "true" god, but essentially they have a psionic power they're not aware of to cause an object of their faith/belief to become embodied with a physical form. Granted, from a hard gameplay perspective it's just lore fluff since it's mentioned in their description but there's not actual powers or stats to interpolate how this works. Personally I'd just find an appropriate stat block and adapt the appearance to suit the story; I'm just pointing out that it's hard to pin down what they "actually" create since we're not given proper details.
There is, in FR canon a kuo-toa god. I remembered because her name, Blibdoolpoolp, is so absurd it’s memorable. I think it’s supposed to sound like someone talking underwater. Though I should add, I don’t know if it’s been established to still be canon in 5e.
There's mention of her as a common figure among the Kua Toa; however, the description of their general god manifesting power just says "if enough kuo-toa believe that a god is real, the energy of their collective subconscious can cause that god to manifest as a physical entity". The "physical entity" part suggests to me that they're not necessarily creating a true divinity every time, though it's definitely open to interpretation depending on what any given DM has in mind.
Oh I only got into dnd now so didn’t know that okay good to know, but it’s debatable. She is mentioned but it never given states or elaborated on weather or not she was one of the ones who was created by Kuo-Toa or if she is fake and an idol.
Yeah I wasn’t interested in fightin I was just couris I just really really get into world building and role-playing, but who knows I a: new to the game but if you want I could see if I could work with more experienced dm friend to try and home brew something
I lean towards then being weak gods, but I think it’s probably something similar to very very strong geneies. They don’t really fit anywhere on a power scale, they are 2 strong to be part of the mortal realm, but are the runt among the gods
