I found that tyranny of dragons listings for monsters and magic items are on dms guild is for free but you have to pay for it on dnd beyond. What's up with that?
Nothing on DMsGuild is integrated in the D&D Beyond tools. If you want to just work off the PDF or home-brew what you find into your personal D&D Beyond collection, go for it. If you want them put into your DDB content for you, you go through the marketplace. They're separate platforms, actually owned by different entities (DMsGuild is run by OneBookshelf which was bought by Roll20 a year or two ago, DDB is owned by WotC, owners of the D&D "official" brand).
