I'm not sure that's the best model for damage prevented. HAM is preventing 3 damage on everything but the fire breath (it's only based on damage taken, not attack roll vs saving throw), so by 9 instances of damage it's about even with Tough; possibly a bit much for . Keeping in mind that HAM is static throughout the day; Tough is a fixed number and it's done for the day unless you're basically healed to full, HAM will still potentially put a lot more work in over an adventuring day at that level.

Not as written. Bullet point 2
While you are wearing heavy armor, bludgeoning, piercing, and slashing damage that you take from nonmagical attacks is reduced by 3.
Something that does b/p/s damage but is not an attack is unaffected. The problem for wings is that the ability name is "Wing Attack", but it is not actually an attack, it's an ability that forces a save.
i am lucky to be at a table of people who iv played with before a on a few campaigns so theres a good chance its going to the higher levels. we also had no free starting feat or items and started at 1 at 3 rn and going to 15 to 20
currently Race: V human (telekinetic feat plus 1 int) Class: Fighter Subclass: Psi warrior Level: 3 Level up style: XP Stats (point buy): S16 D8 Con16 I16 W8 Char8 current build: chain mail, Greatsword, 10GP and just other basic starter gear like short bow and shield. future plans for them? i want to really lean into the telekinetic side of the class so i want to max out my int prob with the first two ASIs fighters get.
I think Heavy Armor Master is a solid feat, but honestly I wouldn't recommend it for your build. As a Psi Warrior you have other options to reduce damage, and with a Con that high you'll have HP to go around. I would recommend getting that Dex up before you get too high level; lots of high CR monsters force Dex saves. If you want a defensive feat that scales with you, consider Resilient (Dex) to cover that weakness.
Bear in mind also that most (all?) heavy armor imposes disadvantage on Stealth checks. With that penalty and a negative Dex you can expect to make your presence thoroughly known wherever you go, whether you want to or not.
Heavy Armor Master is a great feat for low level characters. Once you hit about 10th level or so the number of magical attacks tend to go up a LOT so it ceases to be useful. If you are playing a low level game and never intend to make it to the high end, take the feat.
Incidentally, the UA rules change the damage reduction from 3 to PB. Not a change that got a lot of attention, but likely something they'll stick with.

Even if you go high, honestly it's probably still worth it unless your DM decides to exclusively throw a relatively small pool of monsters at you.
i think i may try to pick it up early im the only front liner in the group so being tanky in a few ways to help the group
Not a bad plan.
Find your own truth, choose your enemies carefully, and never deal with a dragon.
"Canon" is what's factual to D&D lore. "Cannon" is what you're going to be shot with if you keep getting the word wrong.

i might ask my DM is i can use that one instead does anyone have a link to that change so i can show proof?
All the UA documents are in D&D Beyond:

thank you very much
No problem!
One thing to note is that most of the feats in that UA are level 4+, so you can’t pick them up at level 1.
