(This will be long) So, I'm preparing a wild west campaign where magic is very limited. There will be all of the non-magical classes, cleric, bard, and this new class. This new class I'm making is just an artificial magical gunslinger (as the title suggests). The basic idea is as follows: At level 1, like warlock, you choose a different path to go down. The paths will be shotgun, revolver, and then musket. Each have their own range and gimmicks. I'm still working on revolver's and musket's gimmick, but I have shotguns down I think. Shotguns, or more accurately double-barrel shotguns, will be able to shoot both a cantrip and a spell at the same time. The drawback, however, is that you have to reload using an action. While that by itself might seem bad, there's another aspect. Every weapon will have a "flare gun" type weapon as which they can switch between with a bonus action. They can use any spell they like with the flare gun, however, it takes a bonus action to reload. All cantrips can be used whenever by the way. Each "main weapon" will have its own range that decides the actual range of the spell. For example: The shotgun will have a range of 35ish feet, so any spell that has more than 35 feet will only go 35 feet. Each main weapon will have its own spell list though that will support its range, but there will be longer range spells accessible. The final gimmick of the class is that you decide how many of each spell you can use, but you get more spell "slots"/bullets than a normal caster would have. I'm thinking about treating each weapon practically each weapon as their own class basically with their own spells, subclasses, and gimmicks. While the general idea is the same, it's multiple different styles. I also thought about having every main weapon sharing a sub class by ammo enhancements. You could go damage, healing, stat buff, etc. to style your way of play. I'm sorry this is very confusing and I'm open to most if not all ideas. If anyone actually reads this, thank you!

Hi, it's me. I make DnD stuff sometimes. I play for fun how I want to. I may not play correctly, but I play enjoyably.
Muskets were long gone by the days of the Wild West. Repeating rifles had long since replaced them. And this is an interesting concept but sounds like a hell of a lot of work.

Find your own truth, choose your enemies carefully, and never deal with a dragon.
"Canon" is what's factual to D&D lore. "Cannon" is what you're going to be shot with if you keep getting the word wrong.
Very intriguing idea. I like how each weapon has limitations for range which adds to the effectiveness of the different weapons. I think adding some sort of effect along with the range like being more precise with shots from a musket or rifle while maybe dealing more damage with the shotgun or something like that might be something cool. Keep up the great work.
That's what the shotgun gimmick is for! Shotgun will eventually evolve into even being able to use 1st level spells along with an other spell instead of just cantrips. I think the lack of range decides on how powerful the gimmick for the weapon should be. Thanks for the support, and you may have helped me with some ideas.

Thanks. I don't really care what the gun is, I just want a long range option. I'll definitely use repeating rifles though.
