Some comments from m the peanut gallery: 1) Rangers have always had a bit of a trap with hunters mark - there are lots good area control spells but they all use concentration too. So you had to drop HM to use them. Now you get several free castings making it much less of a problem. But, the problem never really costed as HM has always been about doing major damage to a single HP sink foe not about dealing with lots of lower HP foes - which is what the area denial spells have always been about. 2) Rangers have always been Gishes, paladins have never really been Gishes so the Paladin- ranger debate has always been an apples and oranges thing. Yes the 2024 Paladin can finally do somethin* with its spellslots beside smite but not to level of the ranger. Part of this is by design, the Paladin is a fighter first caster a distant second. Ranger starts similarly but transitions from fighter caster to caster fighter as they progress thru the tiers. 3) while I would have no problem with a few of the “ribbon abilities” making a clear comeback most really are covered by expertise in either survival or nature.
Well, Barkskin change from 16 to 17 AC, BA cast time and no concentration is very nice. Makes so it doesn't feel too bad that Roving doesn't work with heavy armor when you want to try a STRanger.
I hadn't considered Barkskin to help STRanger builds, but it does seem like it would help solve the AC issue pretty well. However, it's a pretty big downside to be entirely reliant on burning spell slots for defense every fight or be completely crippled defensively as a melee character.
It also doesn't seem like Barkskin works with a shield or Cloak of Protection, so your AC can't scale up at higher levels.
I wish they hadn't made so many features dependent on WIS instead of your Proficiency Bonus. It made an already MAD class even more MAD.

The WIS modifier thing isnt going to be very noticeble. At the levels you get several abilities you probably already have 18 in wisdom and will either have the same amount of uses as your prof bonus would give you or just 1 or 2 less. Id be surpised if you had to use these abilities so many times between rests that you run out

Depends on the subclass. WIS is very important if you go Beastmaster since it governs everything about your pet's combat power. A STRanger beastmaster would need to pretty much ignore upgrading their pet for over half the game. DEX rangers have that problem too but at least they aren't totally reliant on maintaining a spell to keep their AC up.
CON is somewhat dump-able with Tough as an origin feat... and the not being able to lose concentration on HM helps STRangers imo
i feel like if you are going STRanger then CON is not what you want as your dump stat id still say thats dex and just loose out on roving sadly or ask your DM to forget that tiny cavoite. dump stat would prob be (out of the main three youd want STR, CON, WIS) Wisdom. i doubt youd cast to many spells not like STRangers are casting lightning arrow
Looking through the 2024 PHB. Even less spells have concentration than i heard/read, so juggling concentration for HM and spells seems to be none issue.

That is actually good? It still not going to solve the issue that many just love to hate on Hunter's Mark and loathe that its now a core feature of the class, or that some liked the ribbon features from 2014 and are angry they went away, or that it wasn't a complete overhaul of the class. My point is, everyone has a different idea of what a Ranger should be so they'll find something to hate about it.

I dont know, but it solves some problems I have with Ranger in general, so Im happy. I think the 2024 Ranger is in a good place, even though I think they could've given it a little bit more. If I could have fun playing 2014 Ranger, I can certainly have fun playing 2024 Ranger.
I'll be curious to see the full list of spells that lost concentration. I'm excited to possibly be able to use Hail of Thorns in conjunction with either Hunter's Mark or Zephyr Strike. I expect I'll use Hunter's Mark more than I have been with these changes.
