I'm about to be part of a new one-shot/possible long term campaign and I'm going to be playing a moon druid. I'm struggling to pick between three species because they all have great perks that I want to try out but unsure what to choose. All species are from MMoM so ability scores aren't a factor. My current options are Air Genasi, Firbolg and Elarin Elf. I want something that adds to the flavour of being a druid and all species have some kind of unique link to the natural world.
Air Genasi - Darkvision, Unending Breath, Lightning Resistance, Mingle with the Wind (shocking grasp, featherfall, levitate)
Firbolg - Firbolg Magic (detect megic, disguise self), Hidden Step, Powerful Build, Speech of Beast and Leaf
Eladrin Elf - Darkvision, Fey Ancestry, Fey Step, Keen Senses, Trance (choose 2 proficiencies tools/weapons per long rest)
I love the idea of being a Firbiolg and being able to communicate with plants and animals whenever I want (even on a limited basis) and I think this makes a lot of sense for a druid. The only drawback I have is the disguise self which already becomes available for a moon druid later on. So I feel its possibly a bit wasted? IDK!
For the Air genasi i love all the benefits you get from this and its nice that the spells aren't part of the druids spell lists but they might not be used all that much anyways? Resistances are great and darkvision is too. I'm just not sure how impactful unending breathe might actually be? I guess that might just depend on DM and campaign
Eladrin elf sounds really fun too, especially with the seasons benefits to misty step. My main draw back is I've only played DnD for a few years with 2 characters so far which have also been other elf subraces, so I want to break the mould a bit and stop being so basic lmao
Any opinions and perspective is welcome! (pls be kind tho lol)
Since you are playing 2014 rules I would say Firbolg. It seems like you like that combo with Druid and being able to talk to animals (which 2024 Druids get as free prepared spell) is nice to have. Disguise self is different than wild shape and can come in handy in different situations.
I think Firbolg is great for druid lore overall because of there association with nature, although the theme of Eladrin involving the seasons is great for a nature-focused character as well. As for the Air Genasi, it is less of an ecosystem nature and more of an elemental nature. So what I'm saying is that all of these are good options for it fitting. Of course, there is no need for it to align in this way in D&D, although it is nice.
So that aside, it all depends on what you want mechanically. Since you're playing 2014, you're going to need ability score increases that fit the druid but especially wisdom-focused. I don't have time to check that right now, I'll leave that to you. So figure out the ability scores and then decide what features you like.

Alr here's what you do:
Open up "Wheel of Names" on your search engine.
Put the species in the box instead of the names.
Spin the wheel. If you are unhappy with the outcome, then spin again but remove the species.
Are you playing with the 2014 or 2024 Moon Druid? That might affect your choices and our advice.

But you can’t go wrong with any decision
