If WotC would respect the works and even update to 5e/ D&D One art standards ( like the new dragons ) lost/ forgotten dragons from say Dragon Magazine... hmm 65 by Richard Alan Lloyd and later issues. THAT would be truly a tremendus joy!
Can you do that WotC?? At least Gem dragons? Can anyone with contacts with WotC or even Michael Witwer confirm that smidge of info? A yes or no would suffice.
I know Gem dragons are your personal favourite but they’re also pretty niche and there was a whole book dedicated to dragons, including gem dragons, released a few years back, all of which is still compatible and there’s a whole book of dragon adventures coming this year that I’m sure you can plug a Fizban’s gem dragon into. I’d rather they put their efforts into something that hasn’t had that level of attention in the last four years
Book of Dragon Adventures?? First off, thanks for the heads up! Gonna check it out!
All I know is the 3rd party Amethyst Draggons Hoard of Everything and Dragons & Treasures in the young adventurer book series. Which IS something so cant complain that much ;)
But yeah..Niche... yeah. Exactly! Why do you think they are niche. LACK of exposure. Like botched Fizban miniature set with minis that could be gem related was replaced with... brain in jars... twig blights??
And I very much agree with you that there are other things in dire NEED of reimplementations, rejuvenation that should be put effort into. Im sure you too have favorite monsters and such you want to see back from past ages :)
More examples.
Lack of new exciting adventures actually folks from WotC too and not only 3rd party, passionate fans that keep the torch going. Not least, in the new PHB they added a WHOLE bunch from Tasha and Xanathar and a tiny smidge from Fizban. They could have updated the Draconic Sorcerer with the 5 elements lineaged from the 5 main Gem dragons through blooodlines. Aswell as convert over the Gem dragonborns fro mFizban with more exciting art! Fizbans book is alredy not the most known book for new players and its up to us vets to guide em to past source books.
And YES I know it was said past books are compatible with the new. Thats great.
In my humble opinion I still think a clean, fresh new start with all the updates past source books added could be jammed into the new and future books. Sure more pages = more cost. Though alot of room on certain pages ( besides art ) that could fit in some more lines, text, columns.
So all the new fans can get it from the new get-go now. And sure, from time to time find back to the past books and compare. Which I must admit is Quite Interesting and fun
In short.. Neglect = niche treatment, scoffing at, irrelevance and worse... oblivion
D&D history is riddled with that. It must be fought Imho
Im cursed/ blessed with eyes for opportunity, potential and brazen defiance to let missed chances slip or at least remind about phoenixes of new opportunities.
Im rambly with too much coffee this late night, good grief.
The new dragon book is called Dragon Dives and is due in July. It’s an anthology of ten short adventures for levels 1-12 each one built around a different dragon. Only chromatic and metallic I’m afraid but hopefully still enough appeal to your addiction
