My DM and I are cooking a character based on the song "your welcome" from Moana (cheesy I know but it could be cool). It also has some elements of Hercules and other Greek myths (namely Prometheus). Think a demigod who got cast down to the material plane because he kept stealing things from the other gods and they eventually got tired of it.
Where we are both stuck is class. Race is human since he is kind of the patron of man. The three classes I can think of are Battle master fighter, Zelot Barbarion or Valor Bard.
Valor Bard could make sense because he is kind of a narcissist who likes boasting about his past deeda. As for the other two they make less sense but could work. What do you all think?
Not going with aasimar? Huh, that's my go-to for displaced divinity types.
Anyways, for Maui? I'm actually going to suggest a druid-barbarian hybrid. The character's main ability, besides being super strong, is shapeshifting. You could make the shapeshifting part of the enchantment on a magical item, I suppose, or talk to your DM about making a custom barbarian path. Barbarian even comes with the "don't wear armor" bit that Maui flaunts.
I recommend against Bard. Bards are, first and foremost above all, a support focused spellcaster class. That's not like Maui at all. Even valor bard, which gives you better armor and weapons, you're at best a jack-of-all-trades still relying heavily on magic. You'd be better off with nabbing a cantrip like Minor Illusion for the tattoo and give him Performance as a skill to cover the song, maybe Minor Illusion if you take the spellcaster feat to do it. Or talk to your DM about your tats being a minor magical item. Planescape has done this at minimum, I don't know about other settings, but there's precedence.

Druid! I didn't even think of that its brilliant!
I'm gonna do some research into barbarian sub classes but I think I know what's gonna happen
