I tend to agree that there aren't many truly useful Feats. Most of them are just too situational, and may not become relevant for an entire campaign arc. And most of the useful ones are only so as part of specific builds that leave little room for deviation.
The statistics that get released demonstrate that human is the most common race but the character ratio using feats doesn't correlate to a connection. The percentage of characters using feats at low levels is so much lower than the percentage of characters who are human that feats cannot possibly be a factor in the choice to make a human, while the percentage of high level character using feats indicates feats are being taken after ASI's.
Maybe the big issue is that there are a handful of build defining, excellent feats. If there weren't feats like GWM, PAM, sharpshooter, and crossbow expert, variant human wouldn't be so good.

At least that's how I interpret it. ;-)
The composition of the PC party in no way reflects the population ratios of the world in general, or vice versa.

I definitely agree with this. +1 in 3-4 mostly unused abilities is not worth taking over any other option.
I like the eberron variants. More interesting than a feat and usually better too.
Don't play with them often, but true, their traits are more interesting than a feat. I should probably give them a try the next time I make a Human.
What's there to discuss? If you and your DM think that variant human is too good... disallow variant human.
"The Epic Level Handbook wasn't that bad, guys.
Guys, pls."
